Hasn't pitched a full season in 4 years.

Bad thought, Nasmerica.

Real talk, this does make it slightly easier to trade Quintana because at least you have a major league option to take over some of those innings. Holland sucks but I'm certain the Sox can keep him healthy enough to bumble his way through 150 innings of 5+ ERA.

Seriously, what the fuck does it matter? You could call up Freddie Garcia to pitch for the Sox.

Yes.

If you trade Quintana, it doesn't matter what bottom of the rotation journeyman they sign. The season is over before it began.

I just hope this season doesn't negatively impact Anderson's development. They shouldn't make him a leadoff man out of convenience.

$6 mil is kinda steep. Maybe we can unload him for some A level prospects.

He doesn't get on enough to lead off on a good team.

Re: Tim Anderson and leading off.

The guy has never gotten an opportunity to really develop at a single level. Closest he came was 2015 when spent the whole year at AA (and he posted a very nice .350 OBP, perfectly fine for a leadoff man), but other than that his 431 MLB PA's are the most he has had at any one level. He's really been developed on the fly and rushed to the majors.

So I'm not writing anything off for him quite yet.

I just don't think he'll ever walk enough to post a really high OBP.

Agreed.

I hope someone in management tells him before the season that this is a development year for him, that they will be bad and that he should not overcompensate.

Resign Dunn and have him lead off.

Hire IMU to find a lead off hitter.

Kenny probably thought he was signing Greg Holland.

Kenny probably thought he was the son or nephew of Johnny Holland. He is not going to be happy when he meets him in person.

honestly that's where the comiskey/white-sox experience is at its best. even tho they lock down the lower deck/s since the ligue family ran on the field and attacked the royals coach, i love having room to move around and not being surrounded by shallow idiots taking selfies to show off how much of a better fan they are than their recipient/s, cuz when it's 29 degrees on an april evening at the joan you know the ppl who are there are 98% there for baseball (the other 2% being pussy/ass/orifice/however-you-roll, in some way shape or form)

plus comiskey gives you stuff that you'll never get at wrigley in a billion years. like that one season where circa april/may i was way up in RF and you could still go back to the ramps behind the concourse and smoke. i did that during that early game and ended up befriending a concession worker who was trying to smoke a blunt (i naturally provided lookout for him without him asking me cuz i'm housebroken, he passed it on over and we got to talking) --- he told me to find him when it was time to buy my beers and dont forget about that. so i did and when i'd go to him (working at the concourse food place/s no less) if i bought a MGD for ~$7-8 or whatever and paid him with a $10 he'd give me my beer and $12 change, like i paid with a 20. i'd take the rest of the extra $10 leftover and tip him with that, and then i'd keep the other 10 for the next beer.... and this would work up to 6-8 times a game. and that worked all season.

so yeah, basically because of some random chance encounter having a cigarette i didnt have to pay for beer all season @ comiskey. wake me up when wrigley is as 'chicago baseball' as that =D

also hey isnt this a no-risk / all-upside move if it works out? you cant be paying this guy too much, and no matter what you wanna say about how you're hopeful about his health it's not like derek holland is taking over the sale/quintana role/s... he's basically a possibility instead of miguel gonzalez or uhhh who's that one charismatic super-shit pitcher with the funny youtube video/s? scott something? yeah that's who you're talking about upgrading to derek holland, so i don't see any problem with this type of stuff.

hell, when the cubs were taking busted/injury-prone pitchers during "the lean years" one of them ended up some kind of bearded god of the smoothie or something.... and it's not like he ever had a decent-to-good year or 2 like i'm pretty sure holland has had at some point (or at least like 2-4 months of a season once or maybe twice? idk). still tho since this is gonna take the place of a miguel gonzalez type i'm exceedingly ok with it, even if it pans out that you're basically paying the guy disability for 90%+ of his contract.
