Yes. I have no doubt he goes to free agency, that the Sox will not be the highest bid and that he will take the highest bid regardless of situation.

Big picture question: Why draft him knowing that?

That was discussed pre-draft and immediately post draft in the baseball publications. The Sox haven't negotiated well with Boras, but at the time, they needed to grab the best player available and try to win with him within the next 6 years or so. Sometimes you need to take that risk. Other teams like Detroit were scooping up fallen picks who threatened big signing bonuses (Porcello and Castellanos come to mind), where the Sox were going Aaron Poreda, Kyle McCullough, and Lance Broadway (and then Keenyn Walker types).

I don't think it's completely crazy to think that the Yankees would give up Torres for Rodon under the right circumstances. I'd still deal Q for Tucker, Martes.

I think they would be able to cobble together a nice rotation starting from Kopech, Lopez, Giolitto, Martes, Dunning, Hanson, and Fulmer.

I can see Fulmer being relegated to the 'pen, but Lopez still has a good chance of starting. Hansen is way too early to tell, but he was under control during his brief stint post-draft. Too premature to assume he's a reliever.

They tried the tact in the past of avoiding Boras clients at all costs. It didn't benefit the team and has subsequently become more difficult.

They will have gotten six plus years of Rodon before he is gone. Shame on them should they not have competed in that time frame.

Anyway, drafting Boras players isn't as problematic as signing them as FA.

If Rodon has a breakout 2017, his value would be Quintana level in the off season. He has shown more than flashes of superiority in his Sox career.

If Rodon is having a breakout season and the Yankees are in contention at the trade deadline maybe they'd part with Torres then. I think because he has better stuff than Q Rodon potentially has more value. If he reaches that potential he's a excellent game 2 or even 1 starter in the playoffs.

It's not an outrageous statement.

I think Sale is going to absolutely dominate the league this year and will win the Cy.

Something tells me, the media is gonna eat him alive. Didn't Randy Johnson have a melt down in his 1st year in NY?

2 years of no int'l signings if they sign him, so it'd just be more of the same. Jerry wont pay for it though, even if he should.

They're supposedly front-runners for him.

Not saying it wont happen, but I'd be shocked if it did.

I can see it going both ways. The usual suspects can't spend this year, leaving a good opportunity for the Sox. They want to rebuild and this would be a great piece. They've been increasingly aggressive in international signings. So I can see it.

But I can also see them being the traditional Sox and not getting over the hump for him.

It looks like he is taking BP at a Chicago Park District field.

Ben Badler would be a great name for a comic book villan

What does this mean? Sorry I dont speak scout.

I do agree that he looks pretty fucking good and at his age it would definitely be huge to add a corner OF bat like his to the stable. I just dont think Jerry is interested in paying him and he will go to a different org that will. Sox were in on Moncada too.

But there's now a maximum that can be paid. He's not getting $30 million like Moncada.

Depends which signing period he is in, I believe the old rules still apply until June. So if he signs in the next 2 months there wont be a limit.

I dont think it matters either way. The Sox are not interested in spending all of their pool under the new system nor handing out the big contracts of the old system. When he goes elsewhere they figure most of the fanbase wont even realize what they missed out on and the ones that do will move on. Sox haven't been signing latin american teenagers for 20 years, Sox fans cannot miss what they never had.
