Yeah, that doesn't make any sense to me either. An injury wasn't going to be more or less likely because he skipped AA. It's just an unfortunate thing he will have to deal with and if he needs UCL surgery, it probably came at a good time, as the team is not going to contend in 2017 anyway. Just have to hope he can fully recover. Some come back throwing even harder.

He'll start the year on the 10 day DL...no structural damage means he's fine.

He probably did some stupid workout he shouldn't have done. The Sox are extremely cautious about this shit, other orgs probably would've seen him mow guys down in ST start and decided he was fine despite the discomfort.
