Thanks Steve. That will certainly move the discussion forward given your credibility on all things White Sox.

I read MSG and was thinking Madison Square Garden. Oops.

Speaking of Madison Square Garden, I really like that venue. I've seen two Rangers' games there. I would love to see a boxing card there.

Madison Square Garden should be demolished (it shouldn't have been built where it is in the first place) but the money they spent renovating it makes that practically impossible -- though I understand the city could still have it done anyway if they really wanted to.

The Sox are a sleeping giant.

I see the new owner getting a retractable downtown park.

Near zero chance of occurring.

I wouldn't bet on that. We just built a stadium for a college basketball team nobody gives a fuck about.

I'm still shocked how Reinsdorf & Wirtz allowed that into existence. And wondering what they got in return.

CH, you don't like the location or the venue? Since I always stay in Midtown, it's convenient for me.

It's nice but overrated given how awesome everyone acts like it is.

If we put both MSG and the United Center in Peoria I'd prefer the United Center.

The original Penn Station, which was an amazing piece of architecture, was demolished to make way for MSG (this is like the fourth or fifth building called "Madison Square Garden") and replaced with a system of tunnels beneath the arena complex which cannot adequately serve all the LIRR/NJT/Amtrak traffic. Imagine the ambiance of Millennium Station with four times the traffic of Union Station. It's a terrible mess. I believe the famous line was "one used to enter the city like a king, now one scurries in like a rat."

The arena itself is fine enough, but it shouldn't have replaced a landmark building and made rail transit a living hell for a city that relies heavily on rail transit. And like Rick said, everyone treats it as the holy ground of American indoor sports but it's just a big building. Arenas can't be romanticized like ballparks.

Until they make it to the major leagues, they are unproven and besides Moncada, none are a sure thing. Moncada will be a star. But you need several to come through and it's no certainty that will happen. The Sox sucked at the stupid patchwork jobs they did in years past and with Abreau, Robertson, Frazier, Quintana and Cabrerra all still aboard, Hahn doesn't seem all that capable of a successful rebuild either. Still trying to contend to a certain degree, when all it might do, is to ensure a less desirable draft pick.

I hear you guys. I guess there is an allure to thing in NY just because it is NY. I found it fun place to watch hockey, and I love the chant when the Rangers score. With NY everything is about location, and MSG is in a great (albeit tourist heavy) part of the city. The hustle and bustle around that area is part of the attraction, that you feel like you are in a lively place and not a dump like Peoria.

Lots of minor league talent.
Huge baseball market.
Very good stadium deal.
Championship pedigree.
Underwhelming success based on the "win every year" strategy that MLB has decided is not correct.
Demanding fan base.
Potential of a new downtown domed stadium after Guaranteed Rate is no longer viable.
Coming sale of the team to a deep pocketed owner.

It sucks now but the White Sox could be a force in the future.

A day later and a lot of Cubs fans posted in this thread and not a single White Sox fan complained about it.

They really should just name the minor league all star game, the White Sox scrimmage.

Probably yes but if they fire Hahn and KW immediately there might now be enough to work with going forward.
