Super 2 is what turns the 3rd contract-renewable year into the first arb year, which allows for four arb years, is that right?

I think that's it. He'd get a fourth year in arbitration.

In any case, I guess we'll see him in ten days.

Yeah, if he hits Super Two status, he gets a fourth arb year taking the place of the 3rd year in which is contract would be renewable. Sometimes I understand the system, other times I am completely baffled.

Does anyone know what they are having him work out, besides cutting down on the K's?

Defensive footwork. Also, he has really cut back on the strikeouts...his K rate has dropped like 10%>

Can Moncada play second in the majors?

Right now Yolmer Sanchez is a plus offensive player, and he is very good at second as well. http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/_/id/322 ... er-sanchez

He's only 24. Maybe he has found something. Is Moncada a good enough defensive player at 2nd? Or would it be more like a Schwarber situation where you put him in for his bat, and hope he doesn't screw-up that bad in the field.

Yolmer looks like he could be a player now.

I think Moncada at second is a pipedream but I'll wait to see what Keith Law has to say.

They keep describing Moncada as a linebacker. Not sure how that translates to 2nd.

Well...everyone wanted Zorich to get moved to linebacker, and I don't think he would have been a good 2nd baseman...so I'm gonna go ahead and say that Moncada will be an adequate left fielder.

They said Anderson was defensive liability and now he's in the majors and all he's looking like a pretty damn good defensive shortstop.

Yolmer can move around the diamond a bit, he's had major league innings at 3rd, 2nd and SS not to mention that little bit of OF he played. If he keep up the OBP and really own that positional versatility he has it wont be too difficult for the Sox to keep him playing ~5 games a week even if Moncada takes over everyday at 2nd.

In the next month its going to be a very crowded infield of players who may not be any good, but you'll still want to see. Assuming Moncada has 2nd locked down thats only 3rd, Lf and DH as available options to put Yolmer, Davidson, Delmonico. Wouldn't be an issue if Frazier and Cabrera were not on the team hoarding AB's.

I'm not sure what you're watching. And he's leading the league in errors.

He's in the lower half in range factor: http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/fielding/ ... angeFactor

I've seen flashes from Anderson, but no consistency. I know it's a old school stat, but his fielding percentage is pretty brutal now. If Moncada is a butcher it would kill the up the middle defense.

.768 OPS in May. The lack of production on the basepaths is really the most concerning thing, this guy was supposed to be a terror but he's really been no better than Todd Frazier. For a team that is so interested in acquiring great athletes and guys who can run they sure do a poor job having that speed tool blossom on the big league club.

You want him to develop into a 8 or 9 place hitter who provides good defense at SS and a passable OPS for that position. Prototypical high-OBP leadoff hitter he is not, but .700 OPS (with 15 HR potential) at the back of the lineup is fine.

I was thinking the same thing watching Engel yesterday. He appeared from my eye to have elite speed but two items that should be in his reptoire from the minors he failed in providing at MLB: he should have been picked off first base, then he couldn't get a simple bunt down with men on 1st and 2nd with nobody out.

According to fans in the know not being able to bunt is good.

It's not good if you insist on attempting it anyway.

Chris Getz has only been on the job for a couple months. You have to give him some time to get these guys whipped into Rickyball shape.
