I cannot understand how he developed from what he was last year into what he is today. Even if it was short lived he was getting bombed every time out last year.

Baseball is really hard. It takes some longer to figure it out than others

Especially pitching. And especially with the foregone conclusion that injury will occur and the adjustments and cheats to stay at an effective level when it happens. Rough business but it pays well.

In fairness to the poor fella, he was a Rule 5 pick so they had no choice but to keep him on the roster for the bulk of the season in 2017. They viewed him as a long term starter, so they threw him out there for 18 starts, and you saw what happened. I think that different organizations would have kept him in a relief role with the intention of giving him a full season as an SP in the minors in 2018, but the White Sox just said fuck it and it worked out. The whole “whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” concept and he helped to land Madrigal.

We were at an insurance conference in Branson, MO. I go to this same conference each September, although it changes venues. A nice looking young lady from Country Companies brought her husband to the conference. It is pretty common as a lot of the rural attendees look at this particular conference like a vacation. As is usually the case, people drink a lot after dinner, and the husband is completely shitfaced. We're sitting in the lounge with about a dozen people, and someone says to him, "I bet you'll get lucky tonight." The cute wife says, "no way he has whiskey dick".

I just thought it was a funny thing to say in an otherwise professional setting.

Highest gb rate among starters is impressive. He's definitely figured something out with that sinker.

Curious what the organization thinks of this guy.

Is he the real deal as he as looked in the last few outings?

I would think if there is any doubt about him at all you trade him while his value will never be any higher.

So as soon as someone has success in the majors they should trade them for prospects. Unless they need to fail so the organization knows to put them in the bullpen.
