Looks like we have a future top of the rotation guy out of nowhere. Good stuff.

He's throwing 96 now. So I would say if he's cheating it’s PEDs.

Trade him for what? More young prospects? He's a young cost controlled starter. Is the goal to get eternally younger?

Covey looked terrific last night for sure. That was a nice surprise. And shutting out Boston is always a good thing.

Sale keeping us to only one run is no real surprise. Boston's bullpen guy looked outstanding as well.

But, hey, a win is a win and Covey looked good!

Probably not a good thing if he's been the best young starter through 60 games (Lopez has been solid for the most part).

I cannot understand how he developed from what he was last year into what he is today. Even if it was short lived he was getting bombed every time out last year.

Especially pitching. And especially with the foregone conclusion that injury will occur and the adjustments and cheats to stay at an effective level when it happens. Rough business but it pays well.

In fairness to the poor fella, he was a Rule 5 pick so they had no choice but to keep him on the roster for the bulk of the season in 2017. They viewed him as a long term starter, so they threw him out there for 18 starts, and you saw what happened. I think that different organizations would have kept him in a relief role with the intention of giving him a full season as an SP in the minors in 2018, but the White Sox just said fuck it and it worked out. The whole “whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” concept and he helped to land Madrigal.

Whiskey Dick, I love seeing your username pop up. I probably told this story a time or two before, but your name reminds me of it every time.

We were at an insurance conference in Branson, MO. I go to this same conference each September, although it changes venues. A nice looking young lady from Country Companies brought her husband to the conference. It is pretty common as a lot of the rural attendees look at this particular conference like a vacation. As is usually the case, people drink a lot after dinner, and the husband is completely shitfaced. We're sitting in the lounge with about a dozen people, and someone says to him, "I bet you'll get lucky tonight." The cute wife says, "no way he has whiskey dick".

I just thought it was a funny thing to say in an otherwise professional setting.

Yes, I enjoy that story. Although whiskey dick with certain pills is a different sort of horse, if you know what I’m saying.

Highest gb rate among starters is impressive. He's definitely figured something out with that sinker.

Curious what the organization thinks of this guy.

Is he the real deal as he as looked in the last few outings?

I would think if there is any doubt about him at all you trade him while his value will never be any higher.

Still no homers allowed in 40 IP after allowing 20 in 70 IP last season.

yea but hes got the groundball rate to suggest it isn't a total fluke. even if he gives a few dingers he'll still be having an outstanding season.

Makes zero sense to trade him unless you’re blown away by an offer. He’s a perfect ancillary piece for a rebuild.

So as soon as someone has success in the majors they should trade them for prospects. Unless they need to fail so the organization knows to put them in the bullpen.

It makes sense if they know he is not what he has been. If he continues pitching at this level til the deadline.

He could be a Feldman type guy.

If they trade him I'll be really pissed. They are probably going to have to lean on him heavily at the top of their rotation until the Dunning/Hansen wave can arrive.
