2018 opening day roster?

Post subject:  Re: Eloy Jimenez News

Not opening day. Let him destroy the minors for half the season then bring him up after the all-star break.

Willy: I’ve read that Eloy is a protypical RF, and I’ve read that he’s barely a LF who may and up at 1B. What do you think?

Keith Law: He’s a good RF. Anyone who said he’s barely a LF hasn’t seen him.

I'm gonna say Keith Law hasn't seen him. Or at least has only seen him in a few games.

Eloy Jimenez, OF, White Sox. Jimenez isn’t just surviving in the Dominican winter league, he’s dominating. Jimenez leads the league with a .377 batting average. He leads the league in doubles (5), home runs (3), slugging percentage (.717), extra-base hits (10), RBIs (17), and he’s fifth in on-base percentage (.414). Yesterday he went 2-for-4 with a triple.

Another homer, 2-4 3 rbi. Jimenez is a middle-of-the-order run producer. He's going to drive in a lot and he's going to score a lot.

Seems he can obviously play with this the level of talent he is going against. Might be wise to sit him the rest of fall and winter to avoid injury risk.

He doesn't need to be playing now, he should have made the cubs big league squad last spring.

Post subject:  Re: Eloy Jimenez News

He was injured last spring, which is what kept his numbers down in the first half of the season. He exploded as soon as he was traded.

Neither Kopech nor Jimenez would have been available to the Sox had they produced as they did post trade.

In the case of Eloy, I think Theo panicked. What would it of cost to get Verlander? Theo should of been smart of took the offer for Sale at the begging of the year. Think it started with Baez as the centerpiece.

Very true and Moncada closed the gap on Devers significantly by the end of the year.

Apparently he didn't want to trade anyone on the 25. Would you rather have Quintana and Russell or Verlander and Jimenez? You just can't trade Jimenez for a guy like Quintana.

I'd like to point out to JORR that you are more excited about a prospect and more sure of his success than any Cub fan ever on this board.

And I dont blame you. Get excited, it's fun.

I am not up to date on the Cubs roster, do they have like 3 MLB young guys who can play SS and 2B?

Me?

I don't count on Jimenez for a single thing at the MLB level. My post points out that the Sox made trades that, should they have been offered today, would not be accepted by the other team, which seems to indicate they were good trades. If none of them are worth anything at the MLB level, they will become bad trades.

No, Marty. That's why I quoted his post. He's been driving the Eloy bus for a while.

Just pumping the brakes a touch...

For everyone gushing over Eloy's AA White Sox numbers... here are recent Cubs prospects and their first taste of AA.

.320 .438 .579 Schwarber
.355 .458 .702 KB
.415 .494 .862 Soler
.294 .346 .638 Baez
.353 .397 .559 Eloy

I forgot how insane Soler's 2014 was.
From rookie ball to the Show in 3 months. OPS'd 1.140 in rookie, 1.30. in AA, 1.030 in AAA, .900+ in MLB. He debuted against the cardinals and demolished them. Thought I was seeing the birth of a multi-MVP.

If Bryant and Schwarber were putting up those numbers in AA as college sophomores that would be a better comparison to Jimenez. The most telling statistic for a professional baseball player is date of birth.

2 of the 4 were age appropriate. The other 2 started in AA their first year out of college.
Baez AA age 20 .984
Soler AA age 20 OPS 1.356
Eloy AA age 20 OPS .956
