When did Eloy go to AA? Are we talking about the 17 games he played there at the end of the season?

He turns 21 in 3 weeks. Seems like some fuzzy math is being employed here.

How old is Eloy really?

He’s not Cuban. He’s Dominican.

Dominican you add 3yrs, Cuban anywhere from 5-7yrs.

Just pumping the brakes a touch...

For everyone gushing over Eloy's AA White Sox numbers... here are recent Cubs prospects and their first taste of AA.

.320 .438 .579 Schwarber
.355 .458 .702 KB
.415 .494 .862 Soler
.294 .346 .638 Baez
.353 .397 .559 Eloy

I forgot how insane Soler's 2014 was.
From rookie ball to the Show in 3 months. OPS'd 1.140 in rookie, 1.30. in AA, 1.030 in AAA, .900+ in MLB. He debuted against the cardinals and demolished them. Thought I was seeing the birth of a multi-MVP.

If Bryant and Schwarber were putting up those numbers in AA as college sophomores that would be a better comparison to Jimenez. The most telling statistic for a professional baseball player is date of birth.

Soler is a good comp.

2 of the 4 were age appropriate. The other 2 started in AA their first year out of college.
Baez AA age 20 .984
Soler AA age 20 OPS 1.356
Eloy AA age 20 OPS .956

Soler was in his age 22 season at AA.

Whoops, Baez is still 20 at least.

The other 4 were all 22 and all made their pro debuts in their 22nd year. Its not like we are talking about career minor leaguers. At 22 he is still 2.4 years below the average player.

Another 20 year old outfield OPSing .900+
.304 .349 .554 .903 Felix Pie

And at 20 years old but his second taste of AA
.376 .421 .569 .990 Mr. Starlin Castro
.288 .347 .396 .744 -19 year old starlin at AA

I'm not even rooting against Eloy. The Cubs got a fantastic number 2/3 pitcher and if he does get a bump playing in the NL possibly a 1.

The Cubs have had a good number of players torch AA, just saying pump the break before the kid is destroyed with expectations.

"Our former Cubs prospect is better than your former Cubs prospects turned (mostly) successful Cubs players because he was younger"

Love it.

Not mocking the trade, I think it was a bad deal for the Cubs.

as tantalizing as Jimenez may be, the lynchpin to future success is going to be Roberts playing CF

Does anyone know if he has a future at the position?

That's fine. There are some who would scoff at that and mock you for acting like a guy who has not played a game above AA is a sure thing.

I think the Sox won this trade big and I'm happy about it. I'd be happy about any trade as lopsided in favor of the Sox as I think this one is. That the Cubs, Theo, and his proprietary data were on the other side of this makes it that much sweeter.

Yea, this isnt a Cub Sox thing for me. I'm talking about prospect love. A lot of people say Cubs fans do that but Sox fans dont.

You are my example.

Been a standard line of Sox fans around this board for a long time.

What are we looking at, 2-3yrs before he sniffs the majors? Eloy will have something like 150hrs by that time.

That's what was said about Alex Guerrero and Hector Olivera.

I'm not ruling out 2018. A lot of guys have been saying he's the one in all of prospectdom that can just rocket through the minors. The good-case scenario is 2020, the great case scenario is 2019.

Of course he could bust. Injuries are already a pretty huge worry of mine.

I am gonna guess and say that Hahn will give him a month in the minors.

We'll have to pretend that he needs to work on his fielding for another 6-10 games in the minors and get mad when people point out just how stupid that excuse is. It's the Kris Bryant rule.

Those 8 games absolutely prepared him for this...

Now back to the White Sox...

Im thinking...

2018 83 Wins

2019 90 wins

2020 AL Pennant, possible World Series win

Wow! You must have seen him play a number of times in order to make such a statement.

I certainly hope the lynchpin to future success is not a 19 year old who has only played in Cuba and 28 games in the Dominican. If one guy is the key to future success wouldn't it make more sense to go out and get Bryce Harper and have him play CF rather than rolling the dice with a guy who hasn't even played in America yet?
