It looks like the Orioles are fielding offers for Machado. He's a free agent after the season so you would hope there would be a window to sign him to an extension. It's said the O's want two young controllable arms in return. Obviously Kopech, Giolito, Dunning and Lopez are off the table. Rodon is too though it's doubtful the O's would want him. That means the O's can take their choice of Fulmer, Hansen, Adams, Cease, Clarkin, Puckett or anyone else who floats their boat. The Sox have the arms to get a deal done. It would be an exciting and aggressive move.

I wouldnt give up Hansen, and he would have to sign an extension.

Why waste resources on a guy you won't resign when you aren't competing?

Hes going to get 200 million, Sox can't afford him...why rent him for April til September?

Correct. Makes no sense for the SOX. Even if you pay him, you're not winning for 2 more years. So why waste that free agent money. Sign a guy when you're ready to win.

They COULD afford him. But why would he come here?

Because he wants to play with his buddy Eloy.

But it's a waste of money for 2 or 3 years when he's gonna be good and the SOX aren't gonna be good. By years 4 and 5 of the deal he's bad when the SOX young players are good.

This is common sense. I don't know why some of you don't get it.

Especially suggesting they trade prospects for him when he's 1 year away from free agency. To do that when the Sox are gathering prospects in a rebuilding mode is insane.

If he can be gotten for a combo like Cease, Fulmer, and maybe Tim Anderson and obviously an agreed extension, why wouldn't you want this. They are gonna go all in next year to get him, get it done a year early.

I'm sure once he gets here and sees what the white sox are all about he would be happy to sign for below market to stay

i didn't realize the White Sox are in a position to say a 25 year-old 3x all-star isn't good enough for them.

future must be very bright.

Honestly, the less he knows about the management of the team, the better chance the Sox have to sign him long term.

I really doubt he signs an extension with anyone and foregoes free agency. Their will be insane offers next year that will far eclipse the good offers of today.

You never know unless you try. Players like this don’t come around very often and they are in a place to make a deal work. Strike while the iron is hot.

Maybe Tim Anderson  Yeah, I am sure they are salivating at getting Cease and Fulmer. This is worse then Cub fans thinking they can still get Archer for Swarbs. "Oh, but he lost weight and put a batting cage in his house!"

I think you are overestimating what teams will pay for his one year of service.

Sure, the price goes up if he signs a long term deal. Why would he do that for either the Orioles or the new organization? If he does sign, it will be a Stanton contract +. Look at what Stanton returned to the Marlins.

Stanton had a no trade clause. That is why they got back garbage.

The four teams he had removed from his no trade clause were the Yankees, Dodgers, Astros and Cubs, three of whom are deep in prospects and at least two of whom had a need. It was the size of the contract that dampened the return much more than the no trade.

And the iron goes ice cold if they cannot sign him to a long term deal. The Sox should not make a foolish move to trade for him now, because they can still go after him as a free agent.

Machado also wants to play shortstop. Since the Sox, in your words, "Are set up with a stud SS for years to come", you must be OK with the Sox moving your boy Timmy around the diamond.

If reports are true, O's want 2 controllable starting arms.

I'd want pitching back if I was Baltimore too..they will probably get it.. Imo Manny is better than Harper, he will steamroll the NL 3rd,4th and 5th starters if he goes NL.

Not all of these prospects will pan out for starters, and if the White Sox have plans to compete by 2019, does it make sense to move some of these prospects for a premium offensive bat whose prime years will be in Chicago? Obviously, no sense in trading for him unless they want to lock him up longer term.

I'd be stunned if the Sox signed Machado but I was stunned back in the day when they signed Belle. That thought led me to an internet search...
