It's a shame he went down this path after his career ended. I still think he should've won the Cy Young in 2003. Still the single best pitched season by a Sox pitcher since Blackjack in 1993.

Loaiza's cutter was flat out unhittable in 2003. Teams figured him out by 2004, but the Sox were still able to turn him into Jose Contreras at the trade deadline that season. Loaiza would continue his struggles in NY whereas Contreras would become the rock of the 2005 White Sox rotation during the 2nd half of that season and into the playoffs for a World Series Championship.

If the White Sox didn't get the 2003 season out of Loaiza, then they wouldn't have been able to get Contreras from the Yankees and win a World Series.

Won two straight after they were out of it.
