Santo was one the best 3B of all time. Baines, one of the best 200 outfielders of all time?

You could argue Baines was the best DH in baseball and Santo was the best third baseman in baseball at certain points.

I would argue that there were MANY players that could have played DH that would have been better than Baines, but they didn't play DH because they were good at fielding as well.

Baines makes my top 777 baseball players in history, including Negro League and Japanese baseball.

Harold was good at fielding. He got injured. You might agree with that, but the way you have it written, it seems as if you are suggesting that he was never a good fielder.

He made things look that they were tougher to field than they actually were due to his approach. I'm a bit over my skis here, I will admit since I was in single digits of age during his prime, but I don't recall a lot of Gold Glove love going towards him.

Edit: My search for Harold Baines Gold Glove came up with the first result of Harold Reynolds.

Certainly feels that way, but I wonder if stats support that assertion? (I ain't checkin'.)

Harold was a great player. Don't need no fancy stats to back it up.

Let's just throw away stats as a tool judging production?

I knew someone was going to try to get Kerry Wood in!.

Seriously, there are at least three White Sox more deserving than Baines and that's not counting Joe Jackson if you don't believe he threw the World Series.

I can think of one. 56. As time goes on, he'll be looking better and better. Mussina has to get in first.

Mussina, yes!!! #56? I love him, and I love #14, but...well, they're white, too, so that's good, but....

Buehrle, Minoso, and Pierce. Probably Tommy John too.

You're right! Poor Harold but this selection looks worse than even my initial WTF. If there's 4 guys just on the White Sox more deserving, extrapolate that shit to the rest of the teams.

I jumped to Buehrle and John right away but was trying to think of a 3rd. I went to Dick Allen first, but then I went to Minoso. I don't think I'd ever really looked at his numbers that closely. Man, for about a decade he did it all for the Sox, run, hit for average, hit for power, speed, competent defense. Just a superstar.

Bill Veeck trotting him out for publicity really overshadows somewhat how awesome he was as a player.

I mean I guess looking at it, John probably isn't a "White Sox" guy per se. He played more seasons in NY, and moreso played a bunch of places, so maybe someone wouldn't consider him a White Sox like the other three.

Russo is an idiot and so are most of the sports writers around these days. All analytics and in that LaRussa was correct. I can't listen to Russo for more than a couple of minutes before I switch the wind bag off.
