No, that's not my argument. My argument is context is necessary just like with any stat.

But I've never said it was perfect or used it like a definitive number so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

It's a fine stat with context just like every other stat.

You said it can't be used to compare different positions. MLB says that's the whole point of the stat.

I still don't see why you can't compare it year to year though.

No what I said was its not a perfect 1:1 comparison especially when you throw in different positions, different leagues, different seasons and different amounts of games.

It's one of those gray areas you seem to not like.

But if you think its too flawed to be useful, that's cool. I disagree.

You said it was being applied incorrectly as Frank did.

Correct. Different positions, different seasons, different leagues, different amounts of games 60 vs 162

Too many variables for a 1:1 comparison

Also what you quoted from mlb still requires context. Different positions are valued differently, the term positional adjustments is deceiving there.

If WAR can only compare players who play the same position in the same year then it is worthless outside of comparing players who play the same position from the same year.

It can only be a perfect 1:1 comparison that way but you can certainly use it with context. I'm not sure why the context part disqualifies it for you but whatever.
