Barring a catastrophic second half, Rodon is gonna get a huge deal from someone.

You hope maybe he takes less to stay, but I wouldn't blame him if he didn't.

After what he's been through? He's going to go where the money is. Its onto Garrett Crochet.

Someone from the rotation has to go for Kopech

No way a team should give Rodon a long term big deal. He has been amazing this year, but do you really trust him to keep that going over the next few years? If the Sox are smart they take what they can get from him this year and then let someone else make that future mistake.

I did forget about Keuchel's team option, so I guess its fine for a year.

After Keuchel, you can slot Crochet in there.

I was not expecting to see an extension for Lynn this early. But good for both sides in getting it done.

This gives the White Sox a little more cost certainty for 2022 as they think about who to acquire over the next two weeks. They are in a position where they can afford to take on some 2022 salary in a trade as opposed to just looking at three month rentals.

The great thing about this extension is it really doesn't hamstring the Sox. Lynn was paid $8 million this year and so was Eaton so you figure Eaton's money that is off the books next year essentially paid for the bulk of this.

I'm getting a Lynn jersey now. Guy is an animal and looks like he belongs in section 108 on days he isn't pitching.

He is going to be 35 next year. What do you think he would of got on the open market? This seems about right.

And they are only locked in for 2 years + an option so if the wheels fall off, they aren't stuck with him until he's 40 or more

He could have gotten over $20 million per year on a 2-3 year deal after the season he is having.

Players take less money to play for the Sox.

I like this deal. It's not too long and it's with a guy who has been extremely durable. Kopech replaces Rodon in the rotation next year and Crochet replaces Keuchel the year after that.

I wonder if they are trying to work something out with Rodon. I have zero faith in Keuchel. And I don't trust Kopech to stay healthy for an entire year. It's just too bad they couldn't convince Wheeler to take their money.

I'd honestly extend Rodon if possible and move Keuchel on the last year of his deal.

I hope they are trying. I wonder if he would take a nice base with a ton of incentives. I think it would be best for him to stick around Katz. Since he's a Boris client I expect him to take $90 million from the Yankees or Red Sox.

If Carlos Rodon wins the Cy Young he's going to get well over a hundred million dollars. Even if he doesn't (Gerrit Cole will probably ride the New York media to the award) he probably still gets that figure. No way the Sox part with that kind of cash. Even if they win the World Series he's as good as gone.

It would be crazy to spend $100 million. hell, I'm still 50/50 he finishes THIS Year.

He's on the right side of thirty, a lefty and undeniably filthy. Somebody with deep pockets and a hole in the rotation is going to lavish him this coming off-season.

Katz is definitely the wild card on this deal.

I could see Rodon thinking long and hard about starting new somewhere else.

But Jerry definitely dislikes Boras. A lot.

It may be a situation where he’d have to walk away from tens of millions in guaranteed money to stick around with Katz.

I think the option is for 2023 (think he needs 160IP). He is signed definitely for 2022

my guess is would have been no less than 3 with a fourth year option but maybe a fully guaranteed 4.

but there is a very real possibility FA is a bloodbath for players again next year

Rumor is that he had some gastro intestinal issues.

He'll give you 5 stellar innings against bad teams. It's fine for #5, but in 2020, there's better options. Maybe to keep Kopech's innings down, you keep him in the role the first two months next year and then put him in the bullpen for long relief.

It's first world problems
