Leadoff walks are not good.

This is so stupid.
First of all putting up a position player to pitch is obnoxious.
So if someone does that you should expect that someone is gonna fuck you for doing it.
That guy that rizzo struck out? I think he went 1 for 25 or something like that afterwards.

That was where you were supposed to hit Sano.

I like Tony letting Bummer go out there for a 2nd inning to regain confidence after a bad inning

Pitching wasn't great, but letting Eaton bat in the 9th was laughably bad vs. a lefty. Fuck you Tony you geriatric fuck.

These are the kind of events that can fuck up a season. That's a brutal loss.

And LaRussa is a complete jerkoff. You don't get to selectively pick your unwritten rules. If you want to buy into that stuff you have to hit someone after they throw behind Mercedes. They had the exact right spot to do it. First base open and a guy who had already hit two homers at the plate. Either follow the unwritten rules or shut the fuck up about them.

Do you know how fucking hard it is for me to say that Dan Bernstein has a point on something? Well in this case he 100% had one in regards to this hire.

I don't think the Twins really deep down, gave a shit. I think they were just looking for a spark, so they jumped on it. And Baldelli threw some kindling on it in the 7th. LaRussa wasn't up to the challenge today. The worst thing you could do is eat the Twins fake outrage.

Hopefully the Sox players aren't a bunch of pussies, and TLR comments will have little, or no effect.

Halfway through May and Bummer already has four blown saves.

This is why I don't put any stock in managers. LaRussa is in the Hall of Fame. But if you're a manager who "matters", i.e. an interventionist who wants to control the game as much as possible, there's just no way you pitch to the guy who has already hit two out with first base open. That's what the "book" says. But no, the HOF manager just sat on his ass in the dugout while his pitcher blew the game. The unwritten rules are clear. Sano gets hit in that situation.

I don't think he did anything wrong with Mercedes. The Twins were clearly pissed, and he tried to put an end to it by saying it was poor sportsmanship. When they still throw at your guy it's time to retaliate, but it's a tough spot to put the tying run with one of your few performing relievers.

The bullpen has been a mess thus far. If you can't rely on Bummer and Hendricks to protect a 2 run lead it's a problem. If they hit Sano and Bummer is tossed, who would finish the 8th?

Almost all of this is trying to manufacture a crisis because LaRussa support kneeling for the anthem.

I get that that's what he thought he was doing. I just think in today's game it would have been better for him to keep his mouth shut. These beanball wars are now like fighting in hockey. They're not really supposed to be part of the game anymore. If LaRussa just keeps his mouth shut, he can ignore the whole thing. The Twins are gonna throw at Mercedes but the Sox can be above it and just pound them some more and win the games. But once LaRussa weighs in, he has created a duty for himself/his pitchers to retaliate when the Twins inevitably throw at Mercedes. Knowing who LaRussa is, I'm guessing the Sox hit someone today and there's probably a brawl. I hope no key Sox player gets injured in it. And as I said, if that's the way you want to play, Sano was the guy you were supposed to hit last night with first base open.

I completely agree with your last sentence. It's clearly the young woke fan that hates LaRussa because he's RACIST. They think the guy who had success managing Dave Stewart, Rickey Fucking Henderson, and Jose Canseco doesn't know how to talk to Tim Anderson and Jose Abreu. That's pretty dumb.

Also, I remember when Buehrle had gone six or more innings in 49 straight starts and in his 50th the situation called for him to pop BJ Surhoff, so he did it and his streak ended. These things can bring a team together if they're handled correctly. So far this seems like it's been the opposite. If we're gonna lose that game last night, I would have liked to hit Sano. Better yet, maybe Kopech should have thrown right at the first batter's ass.

It made sense to hit Sano there, but I don't think you can have Bummer do it considering how bad the rest of the bullpen has been. Bummer blew the game though. It's just a terrible loss.

Minorities need to showboat and do bat flips to express themselves is one of the stranger media driven narratives. LaRussa has the team in first place despite major injuries and a shaky bullpen, but he's a terrible manager because he's against celebrations that are essentially taunting.

Especially because it clearly has nothing to do with race or ethnicity and it's obviously generational. I don't like all that stuff, but I'm an old guy. I get that a twelve year old wants to see his favorite player pimp his home run.

It does seem a little uneven though. No batter likes it when some nutjob like Hendriks does his screaming voodoo dance after he made the guy look silly on a breaking ball. But Hendriks is supposed to understand a batter "having fun" when he hits one to the moon off him and throws his bat into the upper deck as he slow walks to first.

It's all childish. It became a race and ethnicity question so that cultural relativism could be used to justify what is essentially taunting. If you want more bat flips and trash talking then you are going to have to let the players police it themselves. Instead MLB has made a point to take that "antiquated stuff" out of the game, but go ahead and bat flip and act like every home run won the World Series.
