Win today, take 4 of the next 5 against the tanking Cubs and Pirates, and all is well. With Rodon probably only allotted 80 pitches or so today, the bullpen needs to be better for sure. Scoring 1 run is not going to win you many ballgames.

Ten days ago if you had told me that over the stretch of games against the A's, Rays, and Jay's (maybe I'll eat some clay and lay by the bay, I just may!) that the Sox would go 6-5, I would have taken it. Of course they've had their chance to make it 7-4 or 8-3, but such is the MLB season.

If Kimbrel's performance is a big factor in you winning a World Series, he is one Nick Madrigal better. For the record, I was in favor of the trade, but I thought it was a close call.

I don't put winning the World Series on Kimbrel's shoulders, but to me, for the trade to have been worthwhile from the Sox perspective, Kimbrel has to be a complete lockdown guy like he was earlier this season with the Cubs. That means three up/three down and guys looking helpless up there. Not this inability to throw a strike shit we've seen from him in a Sox uniform.

Kimbrel appears to be a headcase that every time his environment (team) changes he goes to shit, by the time he figures it out it probably will be too late.

Try Kimbrel in the 9th then. See what happens.


Heuer could end up being a great closer or setup guy, or be out of the league in two years. Madrigal might hit .300 for the next several years, or lose a step from the injury and never be the same. Any and all points in between are also possible. There are a lot of unknowns with both guys.
