Instead of saying "Sox aren't making the ALCS", Bob acknowledges that the Sox can (and will!) make the ALCS, but have to play games 1-2 on the road.

Agreed.

But they're kicking around the idea of Evan Marshall makimg the ALDS roster, and he hasnt appeared in an MLB game since the end of June

Vaughn is hitting .209 with a .704 OPS since the AS break. Not sure he should make the DS roster.

There was zero statistical support to start Lynn and plenty of support to start Giolito in Game 1.

I guess it is a throw away though because Giolito can still start on full rest in a Game 5, if someone tells Larussa.
