The consensus from Spiegel, Decker, etc today was that pitching around the guy would have broken an unwritten rule. I don't agree...years from now, no one would have been saying, "well, his no-hitter is tainted because he walked a good hitter to get to a weaker hitter."

I would agree, if we are comparing it to the last few years.

However, if I could guarantee that every single start for the rest of season, he goes 5 innings/2 runs, I think most of us would sign up for it. At least have a shot at winning those games. It's the 5 innings/5 runs or 3 innings/7 runs starts that kill the team.

Only 2 runs was mostly luck. Credit for getting out of some jams, but they were barreling up on him.

That's your guy. It would help if the bats showed up when he pitches. Cease is fine with 1 or 2 runs of offense. Giolito needs 10.

Giolito is the guy you tried to move this off season. Some pitching coach out there will think they can change him and help him. Some team will probably give you a nice haul for him, then you don't have to worry about wasting a contract on him.

Or maybe you can package him and get rid of Moncada or Yaz.
