I don't know if the footprint is sufficient but this would be a better spot for the football stadium. Personally, I think Comiskey II is perfectly placed. It's convenient to public transportation and expressways. It is walkable from a neighborhood. Its still close to the city center (whatever that will mean in the future). It's the architecture that is bad. It should have looked north for a great view of the skyline from home plate. It almost immediately needed rehabbing for its flaws.

It really would be a great place for the Bears, but there is no way it would all fit.

Paul Sullivan had thoughts in today's Trib. Some highlights:

Quote:
“Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf met to discuss the historic partnership between the team and Chicago and the team’s ideas for remaining competitive in Chicago in perpetuity,” the statement read.

The idea the Sox will remain competitive in Chicago “in perpetuity” suggests they are competitive now. Anyone following the team’s downward spiral since the 2022 postseason, including its uninspiring offseason this winter, knows that’s a joke.

But for the sake of argument, let’s assume the Sox intend to compete in the near future. Would a ballpark in the South Loop help bring in fans who generally have avoided going to Sox Park over the last couple of decades?

Only if a new ballpark comes with a new owner.

It goes without saying that Reinsdorf’s popularity among Sox fans is lower than the sewer system under Lower Wacker Drive. But Reinsdorf, who turns 88 in February, said in September that he had no intention of selling the Sox.

“Friends of mine have said, ‘Why don’t you sell? Why don’t you get out?’” he said. “My answer always has been, ‘I like what I’m doing, as bad as it is, and what else would I do? I’m a boring guy. I don’t play golf. I don’t play bridge. And I want to make it better before I go.”

Evidence of Reinsdorf making the Sox better is harder to find than the owner of the gun who fired bullets that hit two fans last summer in the Guaranteed Rate Field bleachers. The payroll is going down, and the organization’s strange infatuation with bringing in former Kansas City Royals personnel has reached a crescendo.

I was referring to the one in the thread, not the pulled images from Skyscraper City (weird board btw). Like, if we hate Soldier Field, we'd better hate this.

That looks like a slightly nicer version of something a Texas high school would build.

This would be the perfect location. Parking would only be 7k. But that's Ok because public transportation would make it easy. You'd get lots of walk ups from people getting off work. They'd build the area up around it with bars, restaurants and a casino.

Jerry Reinsdorf told his son to keep the Bulls and sell the White Sox when he dies. So I could see the new owner getting this done. Same way I said the new owner of the Bears will be the one to get it done in Arlington Heights when Virginia dies and her dumb sons cash out for 8 billion.

here we go with trane advise from LADIE EXPERT bear down,,,,does he even know PERMITS and construcshun COSTS required that kind of work??? hmmmm,,,,,,,,, NO!

Like its just a matter of going over to the HOME DEPOT with the LATIN"s and buyng some Sackrete and railings?

CASH ONLY!!!! Of coarse, JERRY will want something to!! JERRY, great guy in life, BUYS DRINKS! But always Wants SOMETHING in return?

how about MERTA stops in VEGAS BABy?? lol

There‘s a lot to be said for the ballpark experience. Of course the product on the field trumps all, but it is not mutually exclusive. You can have both.

I think I have a decent perspective on the ball park thing having seen the Cubs in about 3/4 of the stadiums.

Haven't the Sox gone out of their way to make games a family-friendly experience where you can do other things but watch the game? That's been the imperative since Reinsdorf bought the team and looked upon Sox fans with horror and disgust. I think they've done about as well at that as possible. It's a conventional alternative to Wrigley.

Yes, I think they cater to the once a year attendees. And yes the entertainment between innings and the fan o meter and such... I look at as bush league.

It just seems very crass right now to think about building a new park for the White Sox when the current one is only about 30 years old, underwent such heavy renovations as to be practically 20 years old, and has everything one could want in terms of access. There are things we need to build more.

You're 100% correct about there being better uses of public funds. However, from a purely baseball perspective, I'm grudgingly okay with it. If this team is going to continue to exist in Chicago, it does need to attract new fans. This new park might be the best way to do it (we know they're not going to go on a sustained run of excellent play anytime soon). However, if this thing does get built, it's just going to make life more expensive and possibly more inconvenient, for their existing fans.
