This would be the perfect location. Parking would only be 7k. But that's Ok because public transportation would make it easy. You'd get lots of walk ups from people getting off work. They'd build the area up around it with bars, restaurants and a casino.

Jerry Reinsdorf told his son to keep the Bulls and sell the White Sox when he dies. So I could see the new owner getting this done. Same way I said the new owner of the Bears will be the one to get it done in Arlington Heights when Virginia dies and her dumb sons cash out for 8 billion.

7,000 parking spots. What is a normal amount for a MLB park?

That seems to be enough for the usual draw at a White Sox game.

You're right. But in this location you would get tourists and non sox fans just looking to do something after work and get drunk. It would be much more convenient. Then they just take the train back to the NW suburbs.

The legacy of Tony Rezko.

So this is the part where they threaten to go to Nashville if the politicians don't bend over and give them a good and sloppy deal.

Unlike the last time, this would actually be good for Chicago. Nobody wants to hang around 35th and Shields. South loop would be an entertainment area. The ball park and the surrounding area.

Commiskular Rate has 7000.

Tampa => Nashvegas => Vegas-Vegas? or Frisco, TX/New Braunfels TX/SLC/ Boise/Myrtle Beach/Ciudad Juárez -- the next leverage town for sportsball owners.

Quote:
Sources said mass transit access — the nearby Roosevelt station serves the CTA’s Red, Green and Orange lines — could reduce the need for stadium parking.

Comiskey is on three railroads (four, but unfortunately there's no way to get a gameday stop for the Southwest Line).

The 78 could be a possible site for a Bears stadium, but sources said the team isn’t interested.

Maybe they should be, since it'd be a far better site than Arlington Heights and the Sox have a park that's effectively 20 years old.

Does it? Where do you find such information? I been searching around and havent found much.

7,000 spots seems really small when you are considering how many people the parks hold.

Despite the fact that I'm Polish I can do math. 4 people per car multiplied by 7k equals 28k. Park holds 38k. So they'd be short. And not every car is gonna have 4 people.

Like I said, they won't sell out every game and at least 10k will take public transportation. So it's enough. Especially on weekdays.

Sox actually do Ok on the weekends at their current park. They get 28 to 32k in the summer if the team is just decent. It's the weekdays where they have shit attendance. In this location, it will help that weekday crowd a lot.

Yeah, various google queries all seem to be giving me 7,000 parking spaces. That seems to be a pretty modest figure appropriate for a hybrid driving/transit approach. The Rangers have twice that many with no public transit. And of course Kauffman and Arrowhead share almost 20,000 parking spaces in this magnificent use of land:

And yet the Royals are wanting to build a downtown park and move away from that piece of land. Perhaps the Sox can continue the Royals transactions and move into this facility? The Bears could kick out the Chiefs and it would solve both teams problems.

You know, I'm really of two minds on that. I should like it but I don't think I do. Something about Kauffman on TV has always just worked for me; that they were this team on the prairie and as you look out beyond center field you pretty much see a prairie (or you did before the renovations). And while I'm no fan of oceans of asphalt, I realize the Royals have always had a wide catchment area as a team and have had to be able to accommodate day-trippers from Nebraska and Oklahoma and other boxy states. A downtown Royals stadium would just be Generic Mixed-Use Urban Ballpark #17 at this point. Kauffman's fine.

Yeah I am with you. I understand the reasoning behind wanting the downtown park. But IMO Kauffman is perfect. The set up there for both stadiums is great. You can get in and out of there really quick. There are no downside to it.

Highly underrated feature of Kauffman: curvilinear symmetrical outfield dimensions!

No gimmicky short porches, no stupid weird angles that don't really have to be there because there aren't real constraints on the building, just a nice gentle curve, 410 to dead center. Comiskey has it but it's too short down the lines.

isn't that why Walt bought up half of Central Florida when he did the do-over on Disneyland? Didn't want the area around WDW to turn into an endless eyesore of strip malls and strip joints, like in Anaheim.

Apparently it's a combined bus station/Amtrak station for one of the most public-transportation-allergic parts of America. Looks a little like a gentler version of the vagina dentata World Trade Center PATH station:

ah, ok, i see the tracks and pedestrian walkways now.

decent effort to make something other than Soviet Bloc concrete, a more western euro in flavor train station.

still preferred the before shot with the green trees shrouding the stadiums. acres of asphalt's fugly.

Trying to get some of that SICP shine on them.

I don't know if the footprint is sufficient but this would be a better spot for the football stadium. Personally, I think Comiskey II is perfectly placed. It's convenient to public transportation and expressways. It is walkable from a neighborhood. Its still close to the city center (whatever that will mean in the future). It's the architecture that is bad. It should have looked north for a great view of the skyline from home plate. It almost immediately needed rehabbing for its flaws.
