I'm sure you're right. It was probably a conspiracy by the Chicago media, who we all know to be pro-Sox, to lie about the 1.7 million. Great detective work Teelander. On the other hand, maybe it's just another post in the Sox forum from a Cub fan who supposedly doesn't care about the Sox or anything Sox-related, yet feels the need to obsess about them to the point of denying the parade stats. It's always attendance with you guys isn't it. |

Agree they estimated it along the entire route, but the Media did constantly report 1.7 mill people , like they are all on LaSalle. I agree it is hard to estimate, but 1.7 would not have been fun, because about half would never even been close to seeing anything, maybe 1.695, but never 1.7 If I was a Sox fan though, I could care less who came out. Actually if I was a Sox fan and I was the only guy on LaSalle and the Sox came buy, that would be cool. |

I suspect that numapumaguy meant to say 3 million FANS through the turnstyles. Granted the Cubs had 3 million people. While I am not an expert at estimating crowd numbers like Teebagger, I come up with the following: The Cubs had about 500,000 actual baseball fans come to the park last year. They also had: About 300,000 geriatric hayseeds who were bussed in from Iowa and Nebraska. About 800,000 yuppies who happen to live in Lincoln Park or Lakeview and have heard that going to Cubs games is a cool and trendy thing to do. About 500,000 frat guys from mediocre midwestern universities who are at home with mommy and daddy for the summer and looking for a place where they can drink beer without too much attention being paid to their crappy fake id's. And last but certainly not least, another 1,000,000 super cute fellas who have swished their way over from Halsted St., lured by the promise of sunshine, shirtless frat boys, and a 95 Million Dollar payroll that is unable to win even half of its games. |
