he's still a free agent and is better than the trash we have been putting in the outfield as of late.....

Brian Anderson is in Charlotte, and should be back in CF with the Sox this week. I'll take BA over Edmonds at this point.

Why would you pass? He's probably cheap. He hits a decent ball and he can still go get them, and if Oz could get him to play a bit deeper I think he'd make a nice fit.

But you can do better. Certainly with the glove. Anderson is way better than Edmonds is at his age, and lets not forget he was also hitting the cover off the ball before he got hurt.

obviously this team sux ass and is bound for 70 wins. at least let BA play and see if he is an option for 2010.

Awe come on Frank...you have to admit that the only guy who sees the Sox thru rose colored glasses more is Ranger...at least admit that to me, lead drummer.

This is the most winnable division in baseball this year, it seems. Why not pick up an Edmonds, and see what he does. He had actually a pretty good year last year. Slugged .480, 20 HR and 55 RBI. it's offense the Sox need.

I don't think he solves any of the problems the team has. He can't be a starting pitcher, can't lead-off, won't hit for a high average...

And I REALLY don't think he's just going to roll off the couch in the middle of May and repeat those numbers. What is he 39??
Center field will be fine once BA gets back but keep your eyes open for a 3B. The Sox have a MAJOR problem there.

As bad as the offense has been, I still think they will, at some point, start hitting. Obviously, that needs to begin right away because as bad as this division may be, they aren't going to be good enough to jump over 3 teams that easily. My problem is with the starting rotation. Outside of Burhele, and sometimes Colon, who looks like a 5-6 IP at best (I'm sure the Sox aren't complaining), we don't know what we're getting from Danks, and Floyd/#5 spot are guaranteed losses right now.

You think he would roll off the couch for less than $350,000?

True but don't discount how much a better defense would help the pitchers. I'm not sure what the Sox defense efficiency ratio is but they have to be near the bottom of the league. Nothing helps a pitcher more than turning outs into outs.

It would also be nice if Gavin Floyd turned some of those HRs into flyouts.

Not another pissed away #1 draft pick?

Not another draft choice wasted on a quarterback?

"Winning" this Division means jackshit.

How about putting a consistently good team on the field and not this crap?

How about having some sort of organizational plan where you don't have to go into Spring Training patching holes in the Titanic?

1. Let me address Frank's "hitting the cover off the ball by BA" before he got hurt. He went 0 for his last 10 with 4 k's. He had a good run before that, I will give you that, but this guy has had chance after chance and he needs much more than a 5 game streak to get the gig full time.

2. More to the point is that Kenny and Edmonds have some bad blood between them from last offseasons attempt of Kenny to sign Edmonds. Kenny, in his usual hard ass demeanor gave Edmonds all of 2 hours to decide if he wanted to play for the Sox. I understand why Kenny was his usual hard ass self on this on, becuase he was in prime 'Everyone is out to get us form" and didnt want Edmonds shopping the offer.

Edmonds on the other hand was on vacation with family in San Diego when this went down and Edmonds basically gave Kenny an "F off" if he had to decide in 2 hours. I mean the guy is 39 yeras old, wife, kids, etc and said he needed to talk it over with his family. The guy had a great career, plenty of money and didn't need the gig, but obviousely wanted to play.

While some of this was reported last year, the story was given to me by "My Peeps" who understand Kenny's value as a GM, but are very aware of his drawbacks and this is a fine example of one of them.

Everything aside, I do think Edmonds would be an upgrade to this team, especially in the smaller park of US Cell, but what does it all get you? 3rd place in a bad divsion.

Time to face reality and try and ship Dye for a CF prospect and let whoever you get play. Move CQ to RF and then consider Fields for LF.

Cub fans have it all figured out apparently

Even with that 0-10 stretch bigfan, Anderson was still at .333 over his final 10 games and had been getting on base all year long.

With your recent suggestions of signing Edmonds, and cutting Thome (thus eating $13 million in salary), Yes. A lot worse.

Post subject:  Re: jim edmonds

Getting Albert Pujols wouldn't even make a difference with the shitty pitching they're getting. They need Danks to turn it around and pray for a miracle with Contreras' replacement. Floyd's done, so that'll be a guaranteed loss all year. But without at least 4 solid starting pitchers, it doesn't matter who's playing in center.
