Thanks for that Panther.

My earliest baseball memories were Harry and Jimmy doing the Sox games (Ch. 44 WFLD I think) and Brickhouse doing the Cubs games. My dad was a Cub fan and he loved watching those two do the Sox games.

If I'm not mistaken, I think Jimmy came on the air for the post game after that first game of the 83 season holding an umbrella to shield himself from the errors. Good stuff.

Those days of broadcasting are long gone.

Panther,
Thanks very much for posting this. I loved Jimmy both as a Sox announcer & Cubs coach. I actually was watching the Mike Royko show when he made those player wives comments. The interview left out the part where Leyland rips off his own shirt & challenges Jimmy. I used to listen and call-in to Jimmy's show quite often. As a matter of fact,I was his last caller before he went off the air. I think my question was:" Do you think Thad Bosley should be an everyday player?"-LOOONNNG time ago. I think the station was going to Spanish programming. I thought it was WINd though, not 'MAQ.
I have one funny Jimmy story. My wife took my son to a Jimmy Piersal coaching clinic. There was some little boy there that had long hair & an earring. He stood up & asked if Jimmy was crazy? Jimmy asked him if he was a girl. Told him to get a haircut, shutup & sitdown! That day my son ended up winning a raffle for $100 SPORTMART gift certificate. He also won Jimmy's talking baseball cassette & took a nice picture with Jim. He's a good guy & I wish the SCORE would hire him back, not to cover the teams, just to talk baseball in general.

I love Piersall and thought he was a riot no matter what show he was doing - whether he was on with Murph, Levine, Chet, Mac and the guys, etc - always a great few minutes of radio and extremely candid - probably too candid for most of the stations nowadays.

I used to really enjoy him on the Score too. The best part was when he got a caller he didn't much care for that offered up an opinion he didn't agree with....Thanks for your call.......
