MLB: Damon to White Sox?

It My T&R If the Yankees don't bring Johnny Damon back, the White Sox look like a good fit. They need a leadoff hitter, and while they'd love to sign free agent Chone Figgins and move him to the outfield, he may get too pricy. While Damon has been a No. 2 hitter for the Yankees, he could easily go back to the top spot and give the White Sox some leadoff power.

I think it will take a bigger commitment than the Sox are willing to give to sign Damon. A 2yr deal with an option for a 3rd would be nice but he's probably going to demand at least 3 years guaranteed if not 4.

I don't think it would be a cost-effective move for an aging outfielder who can't throw and hasn't led off for a while now.

Damon + Scotty Pods = MATCH

Agreed - I think it'll take at least 2 years, and he'll probably get around $15 million over that time span. I'm guessing the White Sox will, should they look outside of Podsednik, will be looking for a 1 year, short-term deal because of some younger players coming though their farm system.

If they move ROY to SS (which I don't think they will) who plays 3rd?

How so? Even with Pods having his best years in the last 4, Damon is statistically better this year in every category short of batting average (.282 vs. .303) and total steals (30 vs. 12). Yet Damon's success rate was 100% in steals while Pods was 68%.

Damon had a higher on-base percentage.
3x the homers.
34 more RBIs.
His .OPS is a hundred points higher.
Had 32 more walks in virtually identical at bats.

How are they a match?

Damon will not get better. Hell probably start getting worse about 5 seconds after his (last) contract is signed.

Chone was a contract year guy too. Though Chone is a decent option. He's gonna be a bad contract in 2 years.

I think the infield is set. IF they sign Chone (fingers crossed) I think he plays left.
