I am a bitter Cubs fan. I always liked Dye,but he might be a little long in the tooth now.
I could see Hendry signing Pods,who in turn would bat about 245 for the Cubs. He has Aaron Miles written all over him.

Can't make a Sox statement without a Cubs comparison, that bus is never late.

Really had no point, just an observation when looking over the free agent list. Could be extrapolated into a number of things.

Just evidence of Kenny Williams putting a club together on the fly every Winter.
Anderson is the only "home grown" player on your list, and he was a BUST.

Once again, let me use BA as a fine example. BA was Kenny's number 1 project. Kenny and his scouts have closely watched BA since High school in Tucson, where the Sox used to play. BA even went to the U of A for 3 years, in Tucson where Kenny watched him .

I understand drafting a kid in any sport is a risk. Part of the risk is that you only see him 4 or 5 times, as you need to see so many other players. Talking to some Sox people , Kenny must have watched close to 100 games that BA played in. Talked to the kid for years.

For Kenny not know that he was a cocky douchebag that didnt listen is a huge fault.

I am not sure what is dumber. Spending 5 years scouting a kid in as much detail as possible and totally missing on him or going to Dinner with a psycopath asshole and signing him to a 3 year deal because you saw something in his eye!

How many times has Hendry been divorced?
He should have seen "that look in the eye" before and knew damned well what it meant...dinner or no dinner!!!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

The Cubs should look at signing Uribe to a 1 year deal, assuming he wants to sign in their price range. They're not exactly settled at 2B, could use a backup 3B, and Uribe is coming off of a pretty good 2009 in SF.

I would sign him. Would he be the best/only SS on the team?

Cubs need a high OBP at 2B.

He's never going to be a high OBP, but I don't think the Cubs are going to find a guy who fits that profile for the money they'd spend on a guy of Uribe's ability.

You forgot Joe Borchard on your list.

Thome is done
Dye is a DH
Contreras is 67 and bad.
Ozuna = meh
Uribe = no
Pods = Joey Gathright minus jumping over a car

I think the Cubs should sign Thome and put him in Center and bat him leadoff. He would solve a lot of their problems.

Actually a bunch more Ex Sox players, I just named those of very recent vintage but you can go J Reed, Garland, Wells, plenty more

David or Kip? Frank Thomas is still out there too. He could spell Derrek Lee a couple times a week.

The one I am trying to figure out is Carrasco. Had a nice season as a mopup/middle relief guy and probably should be on the cheap. Will never be more than a back of the bullpen guy but you could do much worse.
