Detroit wins 100 games and the Sox win the division by 10 games. I'm being serious.

Really? The White Sox win 110 games this year? When was the last time a team won 110 games, just for trivia sake?

Mariners earlier this decade and I beleive the 1998 Yanks won 115. So it hasn't been that long ago.

The Mariners won something crazy like 116 or 119 games back in '01.

116 games in 2001.

Sox win by 9 games over the Indians. Tigers fall back in the second half and finish 12 off the pace.

Whatever gets you through the night, Greg.
Detroit is a good team, like it or not. They are not going away, and neither is Cleveland. At least you have something to look forward to.

Sox are steam rollin' right now--but in 2nd place...I'm not sure if the Tigers can keep up at this pace, but be damned if they're not givin it the ol' college try...They'll falter, I think anyway....

Does anyone agree that even though he's not HOF potential that Kenny Rogers is one of the most underrated pitchers in the last 10 years? For all his foibles and personal faults, the guy on a year-to-year basis consistently pitches well....The Tigers will be tough....

But....

Sox in 1st at the end of the season 4 1/2 games above the Tigas

<Murph> I gotta say it like I mean it......

I PREDICT.........</Murph>

....that the White Sox will win the division, but it will come down to the final week, if not game, of the season, and Detroit will end up losing a tiebreaker to Cleveland and miss the playoffs.

I do think Detroit is set up well for the next couple of years, but they only have about 3 guys at this point that have proven they can do it for a whole season in Maggs, I-Rod, and The Gambler, and if we're being really generous, Dmitri Young. Justin Verlander scares the absolute piss out of me, though.

Why is 110 games so far fetched. This team won 99 games last year and I think they are much better. It's not just the addition of Thome like everyone thinks. Dye is playing out of his mind. He didn't start hitting until the second half last year. Crede isn't having his .245 annual start. A.J is 5th in the american league in batting average. Contrarous didn't start to pitch well untill the last 2 months. Jenks is lights out recently.

Nobody is more of a pestimistic fan then I am. But this team is loaded and will easily make the playoffs.

isn't there a stat that no team with 100 wins in the regular season modern era has won the world series?
i remember hearing something like that last year which is why i was fine with the sox at 99...

Uh no....a couple of those yankees teams in the late 90's. The 1984 tigers. The 1989 A's. I'm pretty sure one of those Back to back blue jay winners had over 100. Either 1992 or 1993.

So what's your point anyway. When the Sox get to 99 should they tank the remainder of their games to insure a World Series. LOL

Because they'd have to go 79-37 for the rest of the season.

.681 baseball isn't unheard of...
they are at .674 now.

I wouldn't be too surprised if they did win 110, I just have the question of can these guys do it with a different line-up 3-4 times a week like The Oz likes to do?

Don't be so quick to dismiss. Take a look at cbssportsline this week. They detail the easy schedule the Tigers have faced up to this point. Starting this weekend they get Cleveland, Boston, New York and Chicago all in a row. I will be absolutely shocked if they go more than .500 over that stretch.

Now the Sox, on the other hand, have the best record in the AL against the top teams in the league.

I don't disagree that the Tigers are a team with staying power. However, they do not put any fear into me as a White Sox fan. I think the Sox win this division by at least 5 games.

As far as Cleveland not going away...they are 9.5 games back already. Putting that into perspective the Cubs are 10.5.

I said the Tigers will win 100. But still think the Sox win the divisoin easily. I feel more confident about this team while being a game back then I did last years team when they wer 10 up at the all star break. The good news, if my prediction comes true, is that either the yanks or redsox won't get the wild card.

Hey Beardown--You still like the Sock to win 110 games this year? That's 77-33 over the remaining 110 games. Still guzzling the black and white Kool-Aid?

I'm still confident with my 3-game win over the Tigers at year's end, despite the current performance of the Sox over the past few games.

Midget, you don't need to recite to me what needs to be done to reach that number. When I predicted it I was well aware that it was difficult. It will still be done. The Sox are going to win 15 of their next 17 games starting tonight.

Well, it looks like the Sock are about to drop 3 of 4 to Cleveland, so they're going to have to go 15-1 over the next 16 to realize your prediction. Not much chance of that, given the way they're playing now and the competition they're going to be facing.

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of the Sock. But there's no chance they're winning 110 games with that bullpen.

Tough loss today. The Sox have one of the best reccords in baseball but I still think they can play a whole lot better. I think they're going to go on a great run here. Yeah, its gotta be 15-1 now. LOL.
