White Sox Designate Emilio Bonifacio For Assignment

The White Sox have designated Emilio Bonifacio for assignment, as Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune tweets. Manager Robin Ventura told reporters, including Kane, that the way Trayce Thompson has played since coming up played into the club’s decision to remove Bonifacio from the 40-man.

Bonifacio, 30, has struggled mightily in 2015. In 82 plate appearances for the White Sox, the veteran owns a dismal .167/.198/.192. The versatile Bonifacio has given the White Sox innings at second base, center field, left field, and third base this season, but his performance at the plate has negated his contributions as a utility player.

Bonifacio, a client of agent Gene Mato, signed a one-year, $3MM deal with the White Sox back in January. That pact included a club option for the 2015 season but he’ll instead collect on a $1MM buyout. The switch-hitting Bonifacio played second base, third base, shortstop, and all three outfield positions between the Cubs and Braves in 2014, batting .259/.305/.345 with 26 steals in 426 plate appearances along the way.

Amazing how fast Houston and the Mets have turned things around, especially Houston.

Instead of enjoying their team, Cubs fans are putting far too much effort into hating the Sox. It's sad really.

I do think it is a great organization to buy, eveything can just go up from here, the issue is that "HERE" = to a $$$ that I am just guessing Jerry will not price very low and look to take someone to the cleaners. So, the FMV of the organization makes them a great deal IMO, but I see that being the reason they dont ever sell as long as Jerry is alive.

You are going to notice a common thread in most of these rebuilds now.(Hint: The Sox are on a pretty good pace in their rebuild too).

I do love the new Sox fan mantra of how long rebuilds take or they are done the wrong way...everyone else is doing it wrong, the Sox are the BEST organization in baseball and have had the best team in baseball for the past 11 years. Those bad years have just been glitches and its not really because of anything anyone did in the Sox organization.....like this year, its really nobodies fault, it was just a fluke.

The "lose-on-purpose" model is the flavor of the week. You now have about half the teams in the NL failing to make an effort. What a great product. But this is what rampant Theo worship hath wrought. Dan O'Dowd pointed out the other day on MLB that this silly business is gonna end really quick as soon as the first team with a five year lose-on-purpose plan makes a bunch of bad draft picks and the five years turns into fifteen.
