I just hate calling up prospect after prospect who shuts down an opponent (Omogrosso and his ilk are not prospects)

Roster Move: Recchia ready for Winston-Salem

After watching Sunday’s dominant display in Hagerstown, in which Kannapolis starter Mike Recchia took his scoreless innings streak into a 22nd frame before allowing a two-out run across the plate against the Suns, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that Recchia was not long for the South Atlantic League.

Today, it’s official.

The White Sox have promoted the right-hander to High-A Winston-Salem today to fill the spot of Chris Beck (Second Round, 2012), who is on the move to Double-A Birmingham.

Recchia went 5-0 with a 1.45 ERA in 11 games (eight starts) in the Sally. Over his last five starts, Recchia has worked 34.0 innings and allowed just two runs — not earned runs, but any runs. He’s outclassed opposing hitters, and he has forced his way up to the next level. Here are details from the Official Press Release:

Recchia, 24, is coming off a win on Sunday at Hagerstown in which he struck out eight batters for the fourth time in five starts. He has allowed just two runs over his last 34.0 innings in the SAL, a run of dominance starting July 13 when he spun his first of five consecutive quality starts. Recchia put together a 21.2 scoreless innings streak from July 19 to Aug. 4, including scoreless outings July 25 against Hickory and July 30 against Lexington. In his time with Kannapolis, he allowed just 36 hits in 49.2 innings, striking out 53 and walking seven, while holding opposing hitters to a .199 average.

Last season in the Frontier League, Recchia went 11-3 with a 2.51 ERA and a league-high 177 strikeouts in 150.1 innings for the Windy City Thunderbolts. He was named the league’s Pitcher of the Year while setting league records for strikeouts and shutouts (5). Recchia spent 22 games with the SAL’s Charleston RiverDogs in 2011, going 3-1 with a 2.33 ERA. He went undrafted out of Eastern Illinois and was signed by the Yankees in 2010, making his professional debut that year with Short-Season Staten Island.

Didn't they get Axlerod from Windy City as well.

That is some nice scouting.

The Sox sure seem loaded with MLB ready pitching talent. It would be nice if Danks can close out the year in a similar fashion to last night and move him for some everyday players.

The White Sox will be sending RHP Chris Bassit, LHP Charlie Leesman, LHP Stephen McCray, RHP Kevin Vance, INF Micah Johnson and SS Marcus Semien to play in this year's Arizona Fall League.

I don't like this at all. The AFL is a hitters league so why in the hell are they sending four pitchers down there to get their brains beatin in?? Johnson and Semien are good choices but they should also be sending hitters like Brandon Jacobs and Joey DeMichele.

BA named Adam Engel the 12th best prospect in the Pioner League. Here is the scouting report they did on him:

12. Adam Engel, of, Great Falls (White Sox)

Age: 21. B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-1. Wt.: 210. Drafted: Louisville, 2013 (19).

Engel is a human toolbox, with borderline 80 speed and above-average arm strength in a muscular body that scouts describe as NFL caliber. He had a brutal junior season at Louisville, however, hitting just .236/.367/.301 and free-falling down draft boards. The White Sox eventually signed him for $100,000 out of the 19th round.

The Great Falls coaching staff worked with Engel to adjust his stance and help him develop a plan at the plate. He started driving the ball better and finished strong, batting .336 over his final 34 games. He makes good contact and draws his fair share of walks, projecting to be a leadoff hitter with occasional power.

In addition to plus-plus speed, Engel possesses good instincts on the bases that he used to steal a league-leading 31 bases. He already plays a major league-caliber center field. If he continues to refine his feel for hitting, he has a chance at a big league career.

“He’s a very good prospect,” Great Falls hitting coach Charles Poe said. “This guy’s going to be a good for a long time.”

They don't have a current one up. They are going thru every minor league and naming the top 20 prospects and writing scouting reports on them. They are doing the Texas League on Oct 10. I'm sure he'll be in the top 20 so I'll post it for you then.

Bump.

White Sox fans are welcome to be skeptical of their prospects here I believe. I'll stick to singing Go Cubs Go in the Cubs thread.

I'm still not sure on Tyler Danish being a major league starting pitcher but it's difficult to have a much better start to a career.

68 IP
0.93 ERA
45 hits
15 walks
53 k's
0.882 WHIP
Age diff -2.8

This absolutely cannot be explained by me or anybody else, junior.

The BABIP is very high - have to see a few more starts to see if it's a trend.

By my count it was just over 400 (7 hits in 17 balls in play)

Danish's success as a starter hinges on his ability to get lefties out. He's a slinger. Some say he's low 3/4 like Jake Peavy but his arm slot is lower than Peavy's. You don't see any starters who are side-arming right handers because it's too hard to consistently get lefties out from that slot. He'll need a killer slider and change to keep them off his fastball. Both are pretty good but time will tell if they're enough to make him more than just a death on righties ROOGY.

Right behind Almora is Anderson at 38 in BP's mid season top 50:
Quote:
Developmental Update: Anderson sticks out like a sore thumb in low-minors ball; his smooth actions and athleticism jump off the field. The ball makes a different sound off his bat, and the power projection is real. Outstanding wrists and hand-eye coordination have helped this raw athlete turn into a bona fide baseball player. While he's out of position at SS and will likely move to CF in the near future, Anderson offers a multitudinous tool set as a player who can impact the game in multiple ways. Although he's still a high-risk proposition, especially considering his lack of reps as a baseball player, the ceiling is immense.. –Jason Parks
