Some decent news so far:

Tim Anderson has a perplexing line of .313/.294/.500, which is weird but really good! He's one of those guys who gets on base with his speed and his bat, so as long as he keeps doing that I'm happy.

Montas first start was 5.1 IP, 2 BB, 8 K, 1 R. He hit triple digits on the fastball.

Rodon tore it up, as everyone probably knows by now. What people may not know is that he's toning back his velocity (he was hitting 97 in Spring) back to ~95 and working the changeup. Using the slider selectively as an out-pitch, which to me is better news than 7K in 3 IP at Charlotte. The question with him for me has always been health due to overreliance on the slider. Good stuff.

Danish did well for himself at AA, 5.1 IP with only 1 walk. He's not a strikeout guy, but still I'd put him ahead of Montas. This is his age 20 season at AA and he's done nothing but succeed.

Keon Barnum is alive and apparently well. He's one of the players the Sox org wildly overrates.

Spencer Adams had a rough first start, I think the ludicrous K/BB got our hopes a bit too high.

Brett Austin clubbing triples and looking pretty competent, maybe he jumps Kevan Smith this season.

Jace Fry, who I think is one of the unheralded arms of the system, got off to a good start.\

Oh yea, Davidson still sucks.

Danish seems to be the little engine that could. They seem to be waiting for him to prove himself incapable of starting but he won't accomodate

He may be my #1 Sox prospect once Carlos Rodon graduates from the system. Anderson is still toolsy, Adams has a lot to prove and Montas has an intoxicating fastball but I feel like any minute those control issues could pop up again. Danish, though? He's got fantastic control, maybe the best fastball in the system (90-93 with great movement and delivery), an awesome change in the 80's that devastates LH hitters and he can mix in a slider that, of course this is Tyler Danish, has great movement. No reason, aside from being a pitcher, to be worried about his health either. He's got three pitches he can throw at an ML level, you cannot peg him as a reliever yet.

Rodon is the only prospect I would be real excited about for the White Sox. But the Sox have not had to develop him to any great extent. He was drafted nearly ready for the majors.

Quote:
Tim Anderson, SS, White Sox (Birmingham, AA): 0-4, 2 K. Between the tail end of last year and this season, Anderson now has 96 at-bats without drawing a walk. Of course, he’s also hitting .344 over that stretch. It’s an incredible stretch in many ways. He’s an elite talent, for sure, but he’s toying with things that are simply unsustainable.

Pretty impressive on both accounts.

It's not unsustainable, its the kind of player he is right now. He's insanely fast (faster than Micah), has great contact skills and isn't afraid to put the bat on the ball. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using your bat to get on base. I wouldn't be upset if he started walking but an OBP of .344 is pretty good. I'm not sure passing up pitches he think he can hit in favor of working his way closer to a walk would push him on base more, I wouldn't be surprised if he wound up on base less doing that.

Don't scout the stats. Scout the player. Don't look at what he is now look at what he'll be at the major league level. He's a 6'0" 200 lb right hander with a max effort delivery and bad arm action. Do you see him being capable of making 30+ starts and throwing 180+ innings? I do not. I don't think he'll have the durability or consistently to start every 5 days. Of course he could be an outier but I just can't see it.

against double-a pitching that's sustainable. in the big league you'll get chewed up, spit out and shown the nearest UPS warehouse to place your application.

he has bust written all over him

Its not a bad arm action, its unorthodox. He's never had health issues before and what makes him so effective. Take away the arm action and he's Lance Broadway.

Elbow below shoulder is bad. Name me another starting pitcher that has that arm slot. And don't say Jake Peavy. His slot is higher than Danish's.

You mean against AA fielding. He's obviously doing pretty well against the pitchers.

That's the problem with not seeing him play everyday, how many of these are infield singles he's just barely running out? If there's a lot of those you have a point but if he's getting the ball to the grass those will be hits anywhere. He's 21 in AA with zero impetus to get him on the big league roster so the Sox will just leave him down there at least another year and see what happens. So far, so good.

He's never been hurt.

The only thing anyone has definitively figured out about pitchers likelihood to have injuries is a history of injuries. Until then I just assume its how he pitches and he'll be fine from a health standpoint.

A lot of pitchers have never been hurt until they get hurt. Like I said he could be an outlier and I hope he is. I just don't think he will be.

You're talking to the wrong guy. I don't scout production or players. I only have time for MLB and an occasionally SICP.

Anderson hit for the cycle.
Brett Austin coninutes to keep his OPS above 1.000
Kevan Smith is now OPS'ing above .800 for Charlotte in 79 PA's with good defense.

It is time for Kevan Smith to see some time in Chicago.
