Still like the guy. Very cool story.

I do get your point, though. Kinda Guy Smileyish.

Anyone else getting irritated by this guy? Seems as excited for the other team. It's like listening to an ESPN broadcast.

This guy? No way!

Once the old generation hangs them up the era of vanilla nerdy PxP broadcaster like Kasper will be upon us everywhere.

This is Vin Scully's last year, Marty Brennaman is always on the verge of retirement, and who knows how much longer Bob Uecker has. The only thing worse than everyone being like Len Kasper will be Len Kasper being the elder statesman of them all. We roll our eyes when Hawk tells yet another story about the '67 Red Sox; God only knows how we'll react when Len looks back fondly on that time he and Theo Epstein played some Pete Yorn covers at Yak-Zie's or something.

Watched an inning of him last week, makes for such a better broadcast than having Hawk in the ballpark.

Step 1!

I'll never understand how Cumulus cared enough about resuscitating WLS-AM to go out and get the White Sox but didn't care enough to get a play-by-play announcer better than Ed Farmer, like, say, Dave Wills. Farmer and Stone (the best broadcasting pair of all time, just set a time machine to 2008 and ask Dan Bernstein) on TV with Wills and DJ on the radio would have been ideal. As for where that leaves Hawk, I dunno, how about leaving him in a ditch.

Sox are probably paying Cumulus.

Non Negotiable Points.

Not to nit pick on Jason. Cuz he's fine like I said.

But a couple of weeks ago the Sox were down 1-0. Sox hit a two run home run. And he yelled a the top of his lungs. THIS IS THE FIRST LEAD FOR THE SOX ALL GAME.

No shit, Jason. They had zero runs before the homer

I was watching that game. He did not yell. His voice raised and he was excited, but that was not a yell.

Way too much nitpicking and hand wringing over this guy. He's been fine. He's called what, 20 MLB games? I am sure he will only get better.

One thing I'll say- not so much about this guy, but rather about Hawk being gone- is that each game doesn't seem like a fucking potential death march.

Yeah, these two are annoying in a different way with Stone being given free reign to spread his smarmy wings.

Yep, Stone is the best in the business. If you're six years old.

Yeah, that guy seems to think it's cool to strum guitars with Theo, Gammons, and the guy from Buffalo Tom when in actuality nothing could be dorkier.

Maybe he gets better when is is more confident, but the fawning over Stone. The stupid prize shelf and the non-stop Sox math references...

Hawk and Wimpy is more entertaining. At least the old stories are usually unintentionally funny and have personality.

Thorne is actually pretty good with the Orioles, but he has a lot more experience doing baseball now and he has Jim Palmer as his analyst.

Dave Wills does a really good broadcast, but one that is analyst-free because the other guy (Andy Freed) is a PBP guy and not an ex-player. After about a decade of that, I'm not sure how he'd put up with having to have either Stone or Farmio sitting next to him yammering away. Plus Wills is under no pressure in Tampa because I think more people listen to the broadcast on XM or MLB At Bat than actually listen from Tampa itself on the radio.

It's always fun to listen to Wills in Tampa. The Sox let all of their good broadcasters go. Wills, Rooney, Wimpy. And 890 is a trash station with an awful signal. It should not be this difficult to produce a better product.
