This is my take as well. There are only two acceptable paths:

Go through the motions to show people you're evaluating everything etc then fire him after you can plausibly say your findings led you to want to move in a different direction.

Fire him immediately on the basis of wanting to bring in your own team.

If he's the coach going into next year then nothing has changed.

That's messed up. That means he is either staying, or they will make his dismissal even more demeaning because now they will have to say they don't like what they see--instead of just cleaning house like most new regimes do, which most people expect/understand.

Cowley is a glorified Jason Goff. There is no way he has had substantive discussions with anyone in the front office. After all the dissing of Reinsdorf that he has done over the years there is no way they will trust him either.

If the Front office guys around the league say that the guy is whacked then he is more than likely whacked.

They were the ones that first leaked the overhaul stuff. The reason that they knew was because Michael Reinsdorf put feelers out around the league. AK and Eversley are more than likely putting their feelers out now and requesting to speak with certain guys.

If it is a current Assistant from another team's staff, particularly a team on pace to make the playoffs they wouldn't be allowed to hire him now anyway.

If they cancel the season tomorrow Boylen is gone by Friday of next week.

This shit is simple. The season is NOT over. If they fire him tomorrow, they have to have an interim coach. If they go to DisneyWorld to finish up with 10 games, they may or may not finish it up with him. This year has nothing to do with next year. They will find a new coach in the offseason. Just have to find out WHEN the offseason is.
