That's a pretty accurate statement. Goes back to my fundamental problem with the NBA....if you don't draft an absolute star, you have no chance.

Bulls may be incrementally better. At best (and this is optimistic) they're a 6th seed playoff team. That gets them absolutely nowhere.

Sounds like they are trying to get Derozan now...

I hate this lonzo ball move, the guy is garbage.

You're too hung up on his rookie year. He's a good player now. It's ok to admit you were wrong.

Does a lineup of

Ball
Lavine
DeRozan
Williams
Vucevic

get your peckers hard?

I don't think Lonzo Ball is a terrible player, but he couldn't win with two All-Stars in New Orleans. It just makes you a middling team with no chance to compete for a title. They are capped out, and they have no draft picks either.

Of course. Who wouldn't be excited about a 42-40 team.

That lineup should win 50 games. If not, Donovan ain't the guy.

That's basically my problem with this and what I was getting at with Zippy. I like Lonzo but he's never won anywhere. Either has Lavine. Either has Vuc. We're putting together a core of guys that has been in the league for several years each and none have ever made the playoffs(I think Vuc did one year as a 8 seed but point remains). I don't really think there's any reasonable case to be made to be optimistic about the Bulls right now.

It will be even worse when they miss the playoffs again next year and sign Lavine to a max extension.

He can still ball. From the few Spurs games I watched last season, it seemed like every time they needed a bucket, DeRozan was taking and creating his own shot.

I kinda agree with what FF is saying but not sure what else they should do.

I watched a few games after the Vuc trade, and it was still like something out of the post 98 rebuild. He's a good offensive player but awful defensively. It did not look like a team that was a decent point guard away.

PG was def a major issue last yr and derozan is a nice player but unless I am missing something or zach suddenly becomes a mega star then they are no better than at best a 6 seed with a terrible draft pick every year. I guess you just pray they grab lightening in a bottle for one yr

If they miss the playoffs again, someone has to be fired. Don't they?

Look, you know when they'll be good. You won't have to ask. That's how it works in that league.

Suffice to say drafting a guy last year fourth overall who wasn't good enough to start on Florida State and then signing a couple of guards isn't the answer. And we all know it. Keep waitin'.

Caruso gets a lot of credit for being +250 or whatever when playing with Lebron. However, Caruso with Lebron off the court has always been a negative plus/minus. Everybody looks better playing with Lebron on the court. Caruso = Matthew Dellavedova with a different accent.

DeRozan = 6th seed, first round exit in the playoffs, no lottery pick. Bulls should be planning their tank for Wembanyama, not trying to secure a lower tier playoff seed in the East

The "tanking for a lottery" pick really hasn't worked out for them either.

Well, it's either this, or the opposite route and trade everyone and tank. They eliminated the latter option with the Vuc trade, so I suppose you can argue they have no other choice then to do something like this and hope guys like Lonzo, Lavine, Williams, etc improve a lot.

When you “tank” to draft 7th that happens.

Which is why building a professional and winning culture may be the best route. Let the rest follow.

DeRozan gets buckets. He would complete on hell of a starting 5. At the very least, it would be a lot of fun to watch.

Their only path is to stay flexible enough to land a disgruntled star.

Seems like there's a lot of those disgruntled stars these days.

Patrick Williams is still developing too. You want quality players in the locker room to help with that development.

No way anyone knows that right now.
