I don't know. He might go into something like that thinking Jimmy is his "guy". We know he's a good coach, but there's nothing that proves that he would know what he's doing with personnel yet.

I wouldnt hold out hope for getting Wiggins, but there's no way Pax should settle for less than Dieng/#5 pick, and another player like Lavine or Muhammad.

Lavine is better and has a far bigger upside than Muhammad.....Muhammad is basically a 6th/7th man who pretty much scores and does nothing else

i think Dieng, #5 pick and Lavine would be fair for both sides

I like Dieng and they finally started playing him and Towns together in the 2nd half of the season, but I don't think it would be a huge loss if they moved Dieng

Wigging/Towns/Butler is a nice trio. Still doesn't address the fact that they have no outside shooting tho

I guess they do need to replace Moore.

I wouldn't make this deal if I'm the Wolves.

idk....i would be concerned about Lavine developing into something special but i wouldn't be too concerned about giving up the pick in a weak draft and Dieng is solid but i don't think he'll ever become a star

Thibs was very high on Dieng and I think Lavine could develop into something. Besides Wiggins and Butler are pretty much the same player. With Butler's salary and his health issues I wouldn't move beyond the #5 and maybe a protected future draft pick.

well to be clear i don't think he's a particularly good fit on the Wolves either and as a fan i don't really want him, just speculating trade scenarios and what would be fair

I'm hanging up the phone if I'm Pax and that's your response/offer. Pretty funny either way the thought of him and Thibs trying to work out a deal.

I think it's a mistake to not want Butler because him and Wiggins are similar. Wiggins is a more natural scorer but Butler is already a top 20 player and probably still getting better. He's worth a lot more than a 5th overall pick

We know that the Bulls don't want him. Besides the Bulls would free up a lot of cap room and get multiple picks for a try hard all star that will peak next year. The Wolves won't be going far for at least a few years.

I wouldn't use the try hard thing pejoratively. That just means you are likely to get 6-7 more All Star years from him.

Butler is a really good player. The Bulls want to trade him, but Boston and Orlando are supposedly highly interested also, so the Wolves can't get away with a bullshit offer like one draft pick. The only reason I'm ok with trading him is because the team is going nowhere and I want it blown up. Any team in a win now mode is a much better team with Butler. I think he's good enough that there can't really be any "fit" issues. He can play a ton of different roles.

As IMU rightfully noted, Butler's contract becomes an asset this summer. You keep wrongly labeling it as a liability.

The Wolves aren't in "win now" mode.
I think Butler is an injury risk
Effort players don't age well
Clearing $20M off the cap will help a rebuilding team
Butler is NOT a player that you can rebuild with
His value is as high as it will ever be
You don't overpay for guys who aren't really talented offensively.

Pretty much all of that is wrong. Of course the Wolves are in win now mode. Thibs gets of bed in win now mode.

Butler is a very talented offensive player. There's no reason to think he's an injury risk going forward.

I don't know what you mean by someone you can rebuild with. Towns will be the best player on the team and Butler is a great 2nd player. Wiggins has potential to be a top player also. That's an awesome core to rebuild around. You're insane.

it is a great core but once again, doesn't really address their need for outside shooting....K-Mart didn't get it done...Butler is not a 3 point shooter
they need someone to space the floor
i like Rubio and i think he's fine to have as long as you have a 2 who can shoot....which they don't, so teams just pack it in on them

It wouldn't be hard to get a stretch four and outside shooting. Dirk's a free agent. Butler isn't a bad 3 point shooter at all.

Thibs wants to win but there aren't championship aspirations next year. The Wolves don't need to force anything. When the Wolves will be competing Butler will be in decline. I love Butler but everything I mentioned above is right.

No that's insane. You're acting like Butler is Dwyane Wade. He's going to be at his best for the next 3-5 years. Depending on what they do this offseason they can definitely be competing for a title next season.

Minnesota isn't competing for a title next year. I love Thibs but I just don't see that happening. If they were in a position like that then obviously Butler would be huge. I think it will be 3 to 4 years before they compete. When Thibs got to Chicago the Bulls had playoff experience. The Wolves don't even know how to win yet.

You're wrong about their window. Towns will be a top 10 player next year. Wiggins should take another step also.

Clearly this is why you are all in one the trade and I'm not. I think learning how to win will take time. I think at best the Wolves make the playoffs and try hard in the first round next season.

i think i'm in the middle here

i think they'll definitely be a playoff team next, even assuming the team remains as currently constructed
several of the teams in the bottom half of the west playoffs this year are in decline and i don't think it will be that difficult for the Wolves to supplant one of them . i don't really think they'll be contending for a title though...i think they need at least one more year of growth together plus a few moves, obv

No they wont. They will be lucky to be.500 next season. You are vastly overrating the talent on that team. I'm saying this while actually like their two best players.

If they offer Dieng, Lavine, and the #5 you do it. Potentially 3 starters for a guy that has probably peaked as a player. If the TWOLVES acquire Butler they become 8th seed at best

You guys are nuts, Jimmy is young, he hasn't had his best years yet..TW's won like 28 games last season..they need a PG, Rubio is garbage..they are getting better but 2 years minimum from a finals appearance.. Ibthink Boston is the team to deal with not Minnesota.
