Houston Rockets tanked in order to draft Akeem also.

but that didn't work...Sampson ended up shuffling off. Robert Reid, Black Magic, etc went out the door. It was a completely different iteration that won championships.

They made a finals with that incarnation. Sampson really just flopped because of the injuries, but I wouldn't call that 80's Rockets run a failure.

Yep. Sampson's injury changed that situation.

It's no worse than you, up on your soapbox, pointing to the 7th seeded 76ers, screaming "See that's how you do it folks!"

They won't finish the season 7th and the only reason they are 7th is injury and minutes restrictions. Nothing to do with tanking. They will be contenders barring injury going forward.

Sucks they are the only team in the league battling injury issues.

Nah. Won't work. Embiid missed back to backs and was on a minutes restriction. Fultz hasn't played this year save for few games.

The Philly thing is nowhere near a failure.

You act like Boston, Cleveland, and Toronto have their foot on the gas. They don't. Maybe the 76er's get out of the 1st round. They get waxed in the 2nd.

Can't remember if Detroit tanked in order to draft Zeke but tanking was going on crazy back then. Houston was the primary reason that the lottery system was installed in 85

This is the first year with their core guys and Fultz is still missing.

Would you rather be Philly or Charlotte right now? Philly or Portland? Philly or Denver?

Fultz hasn't proven shit in this league. I'd rather be Boston or Toronto, that build a team without tanking.

LTG, do you consider the Golden State Warriors(Pre-Durant) a product of a "pure tanking" strategy?

Definitely not but they are an anomaly in terms of being able to win without high draft picks. If you the history of the league your NBA champions were led by guys that were high picks.

Yes, but those teams did not acquire those players via tanking.

Did the Cleveland Cavaliers tank the 2002-03 season to ensure a better shot at drafting LeBron James? Former Cavs coach John Lucas, who was fired during that season, said he believes that's the case, according to a published report.

"They trade all our guys away and we go real young, and the goal was to get LeBron and also to sell the team,'' Lucas told AOL FanHouse. "I didn't have a chance. ... You can't fault the Cavaliers for wanting to get LeBron. It was hard to get free agents to come there.''

The Cavaliers finished the 2002-03 season with a 17-65 record, tied with the Denver Nuggets for the worst record in the NBA. Cleveland won the NBA's draft lottery and selected James with the No. 1 pick. Lucas was fired midway through that season.

Boston has built for at least 5 years. Toronto even longer. There is a chance Philly makes it to the Finals before either of them. Particularly Toronto.

You're basically saying that its a failure because they aren't NBA champs in the first year of going for it.

You do realize Lebron left, then resigned as a Free Agent. The 2017-18 cavaliers are not a product of tanking. Dumb post.

Laughable, especially Boston. And you really need to stop slobbering over Fultz. He's going not going to make that big of difference this year(provided he's actually good).

Boston franchise trajectory changed due to the stupid Nets trade. How many of those do you expect to occur in your lifetime?

I hear the only thing that works is repealing the 2nd Amendment.

They made it to the Finals with him the first time. They'd never made so much as a Conf finals at any point in their history prior to that.
