That was a sweet block the other night and the put-back flashing in from the baseline.

I'm impressed that they basically just have him as a spot-up 3 shooter because that was probably the weakest part of his offensive game.

The guy is a worker. He wants to be good. His 3 game is already better and once he puts some more beef on, he could be long-time guy. NBA guy, not LTG.

If they have to respect him on the 3 and run at him, he's got a good game on the dribble and mid-range.

I'm happy for him. He has worked his ass off to get where he's at.
I know a guy whose son played with Ayo in Elementary school. Said his father would often have him where shoes a size or two too big so that his feet could grow into them. All in the hope that he would be tall.

Ayo's mom was on with P & S. Very intelligent, well spoken woman with a family history of spirituality, with relatives who were ministers. Ayo has 2 loving hands-on parents. Father worked for UPS for 32 years. She mentions the blessings bestowed on her family. Parents instilled a hard work ethic in their children. The mom prays for her kids several times a day.

What's interesting is devout, enthusiastic strong Christians are the same people Bernstein & Terry had regularly mocked, ridiculed, and literally hated over the years.

You can't sit White because you need his offense. But White's minutes can't come at the expense of a clearly ascendent Ayo. On top of that, you can't sit White because you need to showcase him for a trade. Quite the problem.

You can sit Coby as he sucks. He isn't particularly good on offense and he isn't particularly good on defense either. The only reason that they continued to play him is because they hope to get something for him in a trade. As a high draft pick he may still have value somewhere. If the Bulls are legit contenders then playing him just to up his trade value up wouldn't make much sense because he'd be costing them games in the loss column.

Sam Smith seems to suggest Ayo is the odd man out. Here's how he breaks it down:

Ayo's defensive prowess is made redundant due to the presence of Ball and Caruso.

White can "steal a playoff game" because he can get hot and score buckets.

Therefore, you want to keep White. What does that mean for Ayo? I love the guy but I agree with Smith on White. I've always said this year Coby's value is as an instant offense kind of guy and it appears he's basically assumed that role. I don't know how Donovan is going to make it work with all four of these guys. Someone is going to have to sit.

Trade Coby White while he still has value. Ayo is a better player

What Smith is saying, and I've come to agree, is that White's scoring is too valuable to give away. If DeRozan and Lavine are struggling in the playoffs, for example, having white come in and drop 20 can win you a game. No one else on the bench can do that for you.

I didn't like him when he started at U of I. However, he really seemed to have learned to work hard after not being a one and done. I bet this motivates him even more. He has intelligence and physical gifts so I expect him to be a guy who continues to ascend. Am I wrong to think he can be just as good as White?

Pretty good prognostication

That's true. Bulls have the worst scoring bench in the league. I read "Sam the Man" last week and he might be correct on that.
However Coby White is a net negative as a basketball player. For all of the scoring he gives you, he hurts you in so many other areas. Outside of Ice Cold Trae, probably the worst defensive player in the league. And a terrible decision maker.
In the playoffs (where teams ratchet up the D) he will likely get exposed.

My thinking is the Bulls are strong enough to compensate for White's weaknesses. These bench guys usually have some disadvantage anyway, so it's not unusual that he has a weakness. But you can hide him. You can't hide him if he was starting. But as a bench guy I think you can hide him.

I thought FF liked Ayo?

It's all slowing down for Ayo now. He's only going to get better. What a steal.

Not to mention, fantastic for UofI recruiting in the Chicago area.

Stating the obvious but Coby White currently isn’t better than Ayo on offense.

He's got good offensive skills and he works hard. I think he's already pretty solid at taking guys on the dribble.

He's very motivated and he can still put some beef on that frame. He's already put on quite a bit in 3 years.

At 38, he's a good pick. Pretty good value.

Why am I right all the time?

It's getting to be a burden.
