This will send Bernsie over the edge! ![]() Happy to see it. But I do agree with him that guys like Gilmore, Van Lier, and Walker are deserving too. |

He gets the jersey retirement benefit of the doubt because he's a local, unlike the other guys. |

He gets his number retired for what he could have been and what the Bulls could have been with him. It’s a ceremony commemorating a decade of success that went from being inevitable to theoretical in an instant when he tore his knee up against Philadelphia. That’s what makes it different than Horace Grant. This is more like a funeral for Bulls fans to grieve at all they missed. |

The MVP kind of puts it over the top. There’s a decent chance he ends up the only guy to win that award who doesn’t end up in the hall of fame. |

Went back and looked over some of the others numbers. Van Liers numbers were not as good as I was thinking. And I thought he played longer in Chicago than he did. Chet Walker, Kukoc and Gilmore should be next in line if you are just going off stats. |

He might be the last great NBA player to come out of the city the way it's been going. |

The NBA becoming Europeans + old NBA players' kids doesn't augur well for the Public League, does it. |

Curious Hair wrote: The NBA becoming Europeans + old NBA players' kids doesn't augur well for the Public League, does it. That's not really it. Kids in the City really don't play much basketball these days. You can see it with respect to their skill (or lack of skill) level. They train to play basketball but rarely actually play. Must be an AAU or High School game for them to play 5 on 5 basketball. You will never see a whole court game being played at any park in this city these days And it shows when you watch high school games. Even among the better teams. Back in the day the Public League would put out 60-70 D1 players per year. These days you'd be hard pressed to get 15-20 |

Kids leaving the state for prep schools has helped kill things. Population drop and fewer CPS schools dipping into the suburbs to find talent. |

Prep schools somewhat, but I just think that kids aren't really playing all that much these days. Pickup ball is non existent. They mostly just train to play basketball unless it's AAU or High School season. The totality of both probably adds up to about 5 months a year. Anything outside of that typically pertains to training And their training only ever pertains to shooting step back 3 pointers. Their skill level is incredibly lacking. Personal trainers hustle these kids parents for money just so that they can teach their kids how to do stepback 3's and dribble around cones all day. It really is a shame actually |
