I've been talking to a guy who insists that Jordan had a great jump shot when he came into the league, specifically a great mid-range jumper. His response to anyone who thinks otherwise is "Well he didn't dunk his way to an average of nearly 30ppg his rookie year."

I don't recall Jordan having that good of an outside shot when he first came into the league, unless it was that good mid-range but not so good from 20'+.

Here's one of his comments:

"And once again, Jordan averaged 32-35 pts/game in his early career and defense was normal which means he wasn't shooting a large amount of free throws. You really believe he dunked his way to 32-35 pts a game?"

Michael Jordan really didn't start developing a jumper until about 1990, which is pretty late considering he'd been in the league for 6 years already. By 1993 his fadeaway jumper was pretty much automatic and he didn't have to rely so much on penetrating and getting beat up by roughhouse players (ala the Pistons), which probably added several years to his career.

But to reiterate, Mike's jumper was pretty average / below average his first several years in the league.

Quite naturally I didn't think you would take our conversation to this arena.

But, Michael Jordan was correct about Michael Jordan and I am not appreciative of being called "a guy".

you'd rather be referred to as "a moron general manager?"

It was a thread on another message board. This one...the poster's name in Caster Troy.

He initially said "MJ had a solid mid range jumper when he entered the league and that mixed with his layups and dunks are what propelled him to stardom."

The only thing I questioned was the part about his jumper. I don't know if average qualifies as "solid", but...oh well.
