Not sure about that. Mirotic was KILLING the Bulls on both ends of the court for 3 quarters before he pulled the plug.

This team roster, with Thibodeau, would be competing with the Cavs for the 1 seed. Thanks Fred.

Same roster as last year and they finished 12 games behind the #1 seed with Thibs.

Roster is better and there were a shit load of injuries. In addition to that management literally told players not to listen to their coach because he didn't care about them. That being said management and not Hoiberg would be responsible if this season ends in failure.

They have injuries this year also. Starting small forward hasn't played. Noah is probably out for the yr. Rose has missed games too. They have had injuries too. Pau is not having nearly the yr He had last yr either.

Noah played on 1 leg last year when he did play. Rose couldn't stay on the court. Taj ankles weren't right after the first game of the season. Butler wasn't playing at this level. Thibs was being undermined by management. Portis was in college.

Keep in mind management told us this team was a coach away from a championship. They told us Snell was good and my guy McDermott should be on the floor. Clearly we're seeing with an improved roster this team has taken a step back. This falls on management. Thibs covered their roster failures and Hoiberg is being forced to coach a team that doesn't fit his system in any way.

The roster is virtually the same. The perception of the roster really appears to have improved once Thibs was fired as the the coach. The only change has been Portis. The injury bug didn't hurt the Bulls last yr and I don't think it has impacted them this yr.

Paxson has made some mistakes that have cost the team.

1. He shouldn't have resigned Dunleavy
2. He should have traded Taj Gibson while he had value 2 yrs ago. They switched Jimmy Butler over to Dirk because Taj couldn't guard him last night. So much for the vaunted Taj defense.
3. They should have made it a.priority to acquire a starting caliber wing once Carmelo resigned with the Knicks.

A healthy Noah and Rose was supposed to make this team better. Mirotic was supposed to be better. Snell and McDermott were supposed to be better since Thibs was holding them back. The offense was supposed to be great too. Removing a Skiles/Thibs coach was supposed to improve morale. Management fucked up. None of these things happened. Hoiberg is still learning so that doesn't help a lot but management screwed him. This team has needed another scoring wing since 2010. If Butler didn't develop this would be a lottery team. Next year could be ugly if we don't get quality free agents. Butler and Portis won't take us far.

They should have brought back Vinny. It would be exactly the same.

Thank god the Bulls have a coach that runs a Golden State style offense. The 1/18 performance behind the arc is sure to guarantee a deep playoff run.

If Hoiberg wants to run a Golden State system it would have been nice if GarPax gave him similar players.

A coach needs to design a system based on his rosters'strength.

Exactly.

Noah (RIP) said it best: no one's really sure what the Bulls' calling card is anymore. You know what you were getting with Thibs: a hell of a fight every time the Bulls showed up. They could be beat, but still no team liked playing them. Now we're not really sure what the Bulls are good at.

I agree that you need to modify your system but GarPax knew what he wanted to run and they knew the roster didn't fit his system. Either you tell him to change his system or you get players that fit his system. They did neither.

The roster not fitting the system is easily excusable in the first season. What's inexcusable is the system itself looks fucking awful. Some games I feel like he's telling the players to purposely not get back on defense after missed shots. I don't know the SportVU data or whatever it is, but they have to be the worst team in the league at that.

It would be hyperbolic of me to say the regression brings to mind Marc Trestman and Mel Tucker, but...

What the hell is Hoiberg doing having Rose throwing the ball in at the end of regulation? This is the second game Rose has cost them this season due to poor decision making.

Friedell has it right, this team is lacking leadership and an identity.
Quote:
The larger issue for the Bulls -- aside from the lack of offensive rhythm and the extra minutes for Butler -- is the same one that has hampered the group all season. They seem to fall apart when things go bad. The mental toughness that defined this team for years has gone missing.

The lack of communication on and off the floor has been a problem all year. Players don't seem to enjoy playing with one another, and they don't seem to talk to each other much, as was the case during a few timeouts against the Jazz. They wait for instructions from Hoiberg or assistant coach Jim Boylen, but there isn't much chatter within the group.

Rose didn't sound too concerned when asked if a team meeting was necessary in the wake of the latest emotional defeat, but said he would take the idea "into consideration."

I'm a Pau guy. Have been for yrs but his body language is terrible. Pouts all the time and way too quick to throw his teammates under the bus. He does it all the time and it's quite noticeable while watching the game.

Butler cost them the game last night. Fouls Hayward with a 3 point lead. Then he allows Hayward to break him down off the dribble to send the game to overtime. Hayward also destroyed him during the O.T. session.

You're not going to beat many teams playing 3 on 5. Definitely not going to beat good teams. The injury to Noah is looming large right about now. The guy was playing well and should have been starting.

I think your focus on personnel issues might be a case of missing the forest for the trees. Insert LBJ at SF and Chris Bosh at PF and the critique probably still stands: unorganized and frequently stalled offense, and whispers about the coach's competency for managing the whole thing from A to Z.

When you're hell-bent on being right about everything you've ever said you're going to miss a lot. It's hard work trying to convince everyone that Rose is the best player on the team and Butler is just a guy and Taj sucks and Moore isnt an NBA player and (my favorite) Hoiberg is better than Thibs. At least we aren't hearing that Snell should be starting or playing significant minutes anymore and that Thibs was holding him and Mirotic and McDermott back. #Progress

Cleveland's offense is much more isolationist than the Bulls. Difference being you have James and Irving playing iso ball instead of Rose and Butler. Rose can do it and Butler cant. Miami did the same thing. Iso Wade and James.

You can only scheme so much. Talent usually prevails. Golden States backups are better than Moore and Gibson. So are S.A. and Cleveland. You are missing potentially 3 starters. It's bound to have an effect.

Look at the bench production the past 2 games. Hoi berg has made mistakes but most of it has been in making out the lineup. Find out ultimately if McDermott can or can't play. That would be the first thing on the agenda.

Stop with the trying to be right garbage. It doesn't have legs. Everyone that posts here thinks they are right, you included. Either address the point or don't but constant personal attacks are weak and lame.
