Cool, I get to do a Jackson Browne lyric for my last CSFMB game thread. Go Hawks.

Sent to Edmonton Sports Fan Message Board for future considerations as part of a cap dump but I'm threatening to hold out. Too cold, too much media pressure.

I just think it's time to move on.

either that or you secretly think this is pretty much the end of their championship window and you don't wanna be around your fanclub when they're extra salty from losing =D

You stick it out, it gets whacked.

Come on, the reaction isn't any more extreme than the original statements. You'll be fine

I started a new copywriting gig this winter and it sort of burned me out on writing long posts. My hope is that I play my cards right and get more/better/closer work by fall, and then I won't have any desire to write these things up. Also, I'm probably cancelling my Gamecenter subscription for next year after thinking back on all the winter nights that I elected not to watch out-of-town hockey, so I won't really be able to keep tabs on other teams quite so well. I'd kind of like to put a bow on stuff and start focusing inordinate energy on other hobbies.

Like pro wrestling, no one truly quits a board.

Look...you took a beating here this year. Next year just root for fhe Hawks and you'll be fine.

I've taken several beatings this year! Guessing wrong on the Blackhawks was the least of my troubles.

If I ever move up in this world, I'll make sure some agency takes a flyer on him.

In my mind I never expected this run so I think I'm ok if they lose this series.

I don't know a god damn name of any player for the TB Lightning. No idea about anything about them. Don't know their strengths or weaknesses. Totally clueless.

Despite that, I've got the Hawks in 5.

Tons of fast, skilled forwards, a big #1 defenseman, and a HUGE goalie.

Names to know:
Steven Stamkos
Tyler Johnson
Nikita Kucherov
Ondrej Palat
Viktor Hedman
Ben Bishop

This series is basically the Battle of the Sons of the '90s Red Wings, as Blackhawks consigliere Scotty Bowman faces off against Bolts GM Steve Yzerman.

I feel like both brogue and CH are right. I didn't expect this run, most especially tonight. However, given that they've gotten by Anaheim, I'll now be pissed if they end up losing to Tampa Bay.

took a beating? lol that reminds me of how in nas' league the guy with 11/12 keepers on offense eeked out a 15-11 win thanks to having a slightly higher avg/obp/SLG and a couple more HR/RBI and then he was going around talking about how i just had to "take my whooping" whereas i was like "dude, i just realized that my team can hang with yours right now, let alone after i spend a season improving it.... and just wait til my pitching gets going. the only way you could beat me (offense) isn't that much better than what i've got so i come away from this being way less afraid of you than when i came in"

him: "just shaddap and take your whoopin"

in this case, yeah CH is always a bit forward with his innermost hawks fears and all that.... but don't you guys see what he's doing? i've pointed this out before and i'll surely say it again: he sits there and expects the worst, rationalizing every potential defeat in his mind so it's not utterly soulcrushing if it happens.... and then if he's wrong well hey his hockey team wins and that's fucking awesome! then a byproduct of that is the minivan-driving kaner-jersey-wearing WOOO HAWKS!!!! contingent will all wanna talk shit to boy wonder (hockey edition), but still in the end no matter what his hockey team is winning and how is that a bad thing?

and if he's right.... well it's not like the loss tears his still-beating heart out of his chest or anything because he had already done that before the first puck-drop.

expect the worst and get surprised by the best and you'll never get destroyed by sports. that's how i always do it, and if i were a betting man i'd conjecture that's how CH does it. but hey i guess we'll say he took a beating so everyone can feel better about themselves like they just whooped the ass of the smartest hockey dude on the board.

Stamkos and Johnson are legit, top-level elite NHL players. Kucherov has been good, but I bet the first time he's in the box this series, it's for a stupid reason.

CH is playing his usual game by declaring Bishop as a HUGE goalie.
He's a gigantic human being.....6'7", which is stupid large. But he's trying to bait the casual fan into thinking that Bishop is better than Crawford. Which is............2 cups short. He's not "Huge" in the sense of a clutch goalie.

Hawks got this.

Come on, man.

You're jumping the gun. I was just saying he's big. Don't try to read my mind. I wouldn't say he's better, just that his enormous body presents a different set of strengths and weaknesses. That being said, they handled Rinne and Dubnyk well, and they're no midgets.

Agree. Tall goalies are the "thing" in the NHL.

Rinne 6' 5"
Dubnyk 6' 6"
Bishop 6' 7"

You know what they all have in common???

A five-hole you can send a freight train through, yes. They also get hurt easily: the Bolts got nuked in 2014 because Bishop got hurt and they had to go to Lindback, who is tall but sucks.

Crawford and Quick aren't small people, to be fair.

I'm gonna search for that post(s) where you referred to Crawford as "huge".

It's hard to be a small goalie in the NHL today. There are also very few flat-out bad goalies in the NHL. That Crawford would ever be considered either one speaks to how the curve has been raised and flattened.
