I'm okay with this...but I also see this blowing up in everyone's faces worse than this year has...

Thoughts?

I'm fine with this provided that both of them are on notice that they are fighting for their future jobs.

They're going to have to find some youth, and Q needs to let them actually play...

Should've launched Stan and kept Q. Don't see how you can go to the fans and say that after last year's 1st round embarrassment, followed up by this year's even worse disaster, that we'll just keep the status quo.

I'd be more on board with firing Stan.

With Q, who is a better option that is out there available for hire?

Fine with this.

They've earned one more shot.

If this team is struggling come December/January next season, I can see both getting launched.

Agreed.

Stan is responsible for current cap situation. The Seabrook contract was heinous when it was announced and is even worse with 6 (!!!!!!!) more years to go. :x :(

Correct on both accounts.

I'm disappointed but I have very little optimism for this team anyways. Maybe keeping Q and not having as much dead money will make it easier to buy out Seabrook in another year or so.

I don't know what good firing Q would've done. For all the shit he's gotten over the years, the Blackhawks could do infinitely worse. He's the best coach in the team's history. Why fire him?

Bowman is a more complicated pickle, but he's not going anywhere. It's not that I dislike Bowman so much as he's made some dumbass calls with certain contracts and had a hard-on for seeking out old Hawks who were better off being elsewhere.

No need to buy Seabrook out now when they are about 2 years away from another lockout, which will come with compliance buyouts.

I agree with you guys. I'd get rid of Stan sooner than Q. I would hate to see Q go. They had some great talent the last 10 years. The Crawford injury had a huge impact on the season also.

Right move. There wasn't the opportunity to improve on either front, and I don't get the impression that the dressing room had become such a toxic place that the coach had to be replaced with someone, anyone. I know a lot of internet fans were really into hiring Bill Peters if he gets fired in Carolina because he has history with the organization and had such great possession numbers, but still, zero playoffs in four years? You don't fire Q to hire that. I mean, basically what happened is you have a league with too much parity because everyone misjudged where the Canadian dollar would go, so everyone's rosters became more tenuous than ever. If you find yourself getting sub-.900 goaltending, you're gonna suck really hard, the end.

I'll admit to being intrigued by replacing Stan with Dean Lombardi, but that feels like selling my soul, and maybe Lombardi isn't that great when he doesn't get to acquire Mike Richards and Jeff Carter for crap.

No problem giving them another year. Those that say Q does not play or coach young players are wrong. He does not play young players that do not play the way he wants them to. Q and Stan hopefully after today realize they need to work better together to keep their jobs.

The fact McDonough had to say anything like this today was a warning.

They have two of the worst contracts in hockey on the books for another half decade. I call b.s. on that.

I would have gotten Dale Tallon back.

Dale Tallon handed two of his best forwards to Vegas for nothing.

As bad as all that was, the year that Tallon was replaced by the statheads was even more disastrous for them. They gave Vegas Gerard Gallant!

That's what I am hoping for but it will still be a huge payment from Rocky. The NHL can and probably will opt out after next season (Sept 1, 2019) and hopefully buyouts will be coming.

As long as he finds us the next Kane and Toews then I'm good with it.

Yeah, next season, provided that the roster is relatively healthy, will be make-or-break for one, if not both Stan and Q.

The contract as structured was necessary to secure one of the most important players on three championship teams, and was signed and approved with no expectation of punishment -- the terms of that 2009 contract were legal until 2013. Good, healthy, fair league.

I can live with this but it's important to temper expectations.
Toews and Seabrook contracts alone make it impossible for this team to matter.

Not a big Q fan, but this is Bowman's mess.

You can fire Stan and Q, but what are you going to do about Seabrook being paid 6.8 million another 6 years, when he's a 3rd line defense-man at best.

What bout Toews, a 2nd line center on a good day, 10+ million for 6 more years? These problems don't go away.
