Quite possibly the most over matched management guy of any Chicago teams.

And that includes the Bears.

My money would be on Kenny or Pax. Probably Pax at this point.

He certainly contradicted himself a few times during his interview with Mac and Parkins compared to what he said at the presser yesterday. If only a certain radio bit was still being done on the Score.....

I sincerely think that Hawks management did not understand how many good hockey fans are in this town...ones that know what offsides means among other simple rules...not just the pink hats that bought sweaters at Dick’s and scream out SHOOT every time the Hawks have the puck in the offensive zone. I really think they thought they could slide this one by and there would be little to no fallout.

If they were Golden Knights fans, they wouldn't know what to do with themselves!

Yeah, but I think we all can agree that the change needs to be Stan as well as Q.

Why? Hes just a PR puke. Doesn't make decisions on ice or on coaches, right?

I think that McDonough had more to do with the longer term contracts and no movement clauses given out to guys like Seabrook than with this week's move. He bet that the C$ would stay stronger and that the cap would go up more, and that fan goodwill, sellouts, and merchandise sales would be worth it to avoid a Hull- or Roenick-like trade scene.

At the end of the day, Rocky listened to Scotty Bowman, as evidenced by the fact that Barry Smith is at ice-level now. My guess is that Scotty told Rocky that there's no chance to salvage a serious playoff run while Toews, Keith, and Seabrook are on the roster, and Rocky knows he's not going to trade Toews or Keith even if they waived their NMCs, and nobody wants Seabrook.

Once you realize that you're going to be bottom feeders until at least the next CBA, there's no point having Q behind the bench. Start the rebuild, play the kids more, see what you have.

One thing I learned today from the interview was that Scotty’s bud Barry was already working with the new coach in Rockford last year.

I think he knows when to defer to Rocky. He has to focus on minimizing no-shows for the rest of this season, keep season ticket sales high next year, and set the right tone for branding the rebuild.

If there start being pre-Kane level crowds at the UC, then McD is in trouble.

I just saw McD's quote about Scotty having a "micro-fractional role." That's a load of crap. He may only pipe up every now and then, but any reasonable leader is going to listen to what he has to say.

They have been talking about it on 1000 about Scotty running the team. McD's ego is getting in the way. I also don't believe for a minute, they don't talk about those cups.

Big ego for a PR guy that is in charge of a hockey team.

At least he, unlike Teddy McCaskey-Phillips has something to show for it.

Attendance will plummet soon. Think 2000-2006 levels. This isn't a hockey town. It's a winning town so yeah, fans were rabid about the team that won three cups, but that's it.

It should, and I hope Rocky responds with McD and Bowman's jobs. I respect what they both have done, but Stan has handed out terrible contracts, and the rumor was Seabrooks deals was McD's idea.

They can fire the janitors, but this team isn't doing shit, until all those contracts come off the books. It's gonna be ugly for a while.

It'll never be 2006 bad again. It took so much to get that bad.

But I do find it interesting that no one's invoking the "wait till the kids grow up to buy tickets" argument that hockey fans have used to explain away a lack of interest in the Devils, Blue Jackets, Hurricanes, Ducks, and other such teams with poor attendance. If the Blue Jackets can finally cobble together a solid-ish STH base on nothing so much as a sprinkling of first-round outs over 18 years, then the Hawks, whose young fans saw the team win three championships in six years, should have nothing to worry about. I'd expect the fanbase to level off to something akin to what the Bruins have, solid and devoted but never #1 in town, the biggest difference being about 3,000 extra seats in the United Center.

And I hate to admit it, but it sucks that the Hawks have to redline it at all times just to stay relevant while the Bulls can serve up piles of shit year after year and never have to worry about anyone losing interest. I wish they would finally have to pay.

We need another CBA with some buyouts. It sucks that they wasted one of those buyouts.

It's kind of been bugging me that Rocky went along with Q's exit. Because of all he has done in the last 10 years or so firing Q doesn't seem like something he'd agree with.

I don't really follow hockey but I have a Hawks guy with a lot of connections. As I'm sure most of you guys know, the writing for Q was on the wall once Kitchen got the axe.

Anyway, my guy says that Toews and Kane were almost as pissed as Q was. He said he will not be surprised if Kane requests a trade at the end of the season.
