Good, you needed McCub out before replacing Bowman as I don't want McCub hiring the next GM

This is why Rocky is the best owner in Chicago.

None of that loyalty bullshit. If you don't deliver, you're gone and it's smart to start cleaning house at the top as I don't want any half measures.

Hugely instrumental to the renaissance of this team and of hockey in Chicago. It's possible that they felt they got everything out of him that they were going to get, or maybe Rocky just wanted to give his kid the job. Either way, not really a cause for celebration or lament for me. Who knows if there will even be an NHL anymore.

Rocky's kid isn't getting the job long term. They announced they are searching for a replacement.

From what I heard, McDonough was one of the people most responsible for the Seabrook contract so there's that.

McDonough has nothing left to prove.

Maybe he's retiring.

This sounds like a firing

Probably falling into the trap of "play for the 8 seed and see what happens" that has doomed every Canadian/northeastern executive who's scared shitless of tanking and doing a long-term rebuild.

Yeah, I think when most people retire, their first thing is to ask the owner to issue a press release that you were fired

20 years from now we will find out that Scotty Bowman was mostly responsible for the Championships behind the scenes. His son and McDonough were failures.

Yeah, this wasn't a weepy Mutual Parting Of Ways, this was "he fucked up so I fired him."

I'm glad that this basically means Bowman and Colliton are gone, who have had much more of a hand in bad hockey than McDonough has.

You misspelled Dale Tallon

Maybe it was lifestyle issues. Does Rocky have a daughter?

My guess is that Rocky wanted the front office to not get paid much right now, and that McDonough protested the amount of the cut.

Bowman and Colliton are on the Jim Boylen plan.

Can't speak for Stanley, but McDonough absolutely was instrumental in getting media exposure for this team and bringing the front office into the 21st century. Bob Pulford was a failure. Like I've said before, a major-market team with three championships but no carnival barker is just the New Jersey Devils, and the Hawks are no Devils.

No doubt, he deserves a bunch of credit, but what has he done in Florida?

Hawks didn't need to rebuild. They need a better contracts and/or GM. The Toews and Seabrook contracts ended their window.

The Hjarmalsson trade is still the pits even though I like Murphy.

McCub was a marketing genius and fantastic in that role. The problem is he also thought he was a hockey genius and tried to pry and tamper on that side of things. He'd still be here if he didn't meddle there.

10 years ago 95% of the city didn't know the Blackhawks even existed. But mebbe that's why Die Hawks Black fans think he's a failure?

We knew that already, at least about Stan. When Scotty started paying more attention to watching the Lightning, it was over.

McDonough was key in bringing the club's marketing and promotion up to present standards, but he pissed it away by giving Seabrook the same kind of contract as 19, 88, and 2.

Comes up big in free agency: all he has to do is offer a shit-ton of money, living around Fort Lauderdale, and not having to worry about pressure from fans. He's drafted pretty well with high picks, same as here. It's hard to tell because there was an ownership change in Florida and they kicked him upstairs for a while and then brought him back to hockey-ops, but he's been passable. The Panthers have certainly been worse.

My theory is Rocky knew it's time for Stan to go and McDonough didn't agree. Rocky settled that dispute quickly.

It is very important to acknowledge the respectability that McDonough brought back to the Blackhawks.....he cleaned up a huge mess. Tallon or Scotty Bowman....don't know, but we do know STAN Bowman was not it and had to go.
