great blackhawks player. clutch. him and keith the best pair in the history of the franchise and top all time NHL.

hopefully they give him some kind of announcing gig with the team.

Haven't really thought of too many all time NHL defensive pairs. You might be right or at least close. Who played with Coffey in Edmonton?

great topic and yes, i'd say that this recent hawks' pairing was the best. 3 cups in 6 years - no dryden, fuhr, vernon in goal.

as a kid, larry robinson and guy lapointe.

80's - coffee and huddy/wilson & murray/macinnis & suter.

90's - chelios & suter/leetch & patrick/lidstrom & macrimmon - larry murphy- b. rafalski

i always felt the 1988 calgary flames had the best/deepest D corps of any club i've seen.

wilson with great shot, not sure if mario marois of the nords had a harder one. we all know about maciniss' shot.

keith with the passing and the great stick - accurate shot..at times, too shy to shoot. seabrook was a beast on skates/excellent and fearless shot-blocker...accurate and heavy shot. clutch duo.

We're so fickle as fans.
Someone sacrifices his body for 3 Cups and we say he doesn't care when the body gives out.
We lose stars when management won't cough up the dough and we complain. We pay someone past his prime for a great job and we complain.
I get it, Seabs last contract has handcuffed the team lately. But he earned it!!!
Thanks Brent Seabrook for all the great memories!!!

I feel both, but he's been a douche the last few years. Great memories that he tainted.

Seabrook was the 4th or 5th most important player on those Cup teams but his contract and terrible play was probably the biggest reason why the team's performance has been so underwhelming since 2017. He was one of the worst defensemen in the league with a salary
of a top line dman. Without Seabrook's awful contract, they probably still have Panarin.

And while Bowman and Co signed him to the contract, Seabrook definitely didn't live up to it. The facts are that he had a great season stat-wise in his contract year when he signed his 8-year deal and then his plays declined suddenly. He looked overweight and out-of-shape and team insiders always said he wasn't a workout warrior. Yes, anyone would have signed the contract and injuries played a role, but it is definitely fair to question Seabrook's professionalism and whether he did everything he could have to live up to his contract.

was never the fastest skater..when he lost his wheels, hawks playing 4 1/2 x 5. the whole league knew and PK units looked to press the right point when seabrook was on the ice.

it started with the unlucky bickell. bad contract to a not so skilled and slow player.

really poor decision..started the trend of poor decisions.

Very good defenseman, fourth best Hawk d-man that I've seen. Too bad injuries made that contract horrible. Definitely retire #7 to honor Seabrook, Chelios, and Pit Martin.

People forget #7 being great let #2 go wherever he wanted.

Exactly. They complimented each other perfectly.

And that Hjalmarsson and Oduya were tasked with facing the opponent's top line.

??

toi from bruins and lightning finals tells us keith and duncan got more minutes than hjalmarsson and oduya. home ice line changes and face-off wins also dictate 'match-ups'. if oduya and hjalmarsson played less minutes than duncan & keith, then the bruins and lightning top offensive talent played less minutes as a result of hjalmarsson and oduya matching up against the best??

usually, the playoffs compel the coach to shrink his bench and sit his weakest d-men. leddy was too soft and rosival too slow. hawks' 2 pairings played monster minutes - and, rightly so.

When I think of Seabrook I think of 3 Blackhawks Stanley Cups.

It wasn't even really two pairings. The second half of the 2015 Stanley Cup was Keith, Hjalmarsson, and Seabrook getting almost all the minutes, with as much one-legged Oduya as they could manage and hardly any Kimmo Timonen, Kyle Cumiskey, or Trevor van Riemsdyk.

CH, what are the cap implications of his retirement? I have yet to read a good article on it.
