Its pretty simple...
The "real" hockey fans hate him but those who can spot a true winner know how important he is.

Take your hockey statistics. I'll take rings.

Northside Dan said to "relax". He also said he farted on the train today.

The Hawks have as good a shot as anybody.

I think we are getting to games that matter now. I was out at the bar on Friday night, and some guy insisted the sound be turned on.

More than once.

The majority of the issues to my eye are fixable. Seem to be general absentmindedness, lazyness, indifference etc. I'm 85% confident it's just boredom waiting for April/May games to get here.

If there was something to worry about, the lockdown pair of Hammer/Oduya last year has been anything but that this year. Keith/Seabs have been up and down depending on the shift. Rozival is done yet still gets way too much ice time. Shaw has been awful. Arguably the Hawks worst forward all year. Where is Ben Smith? Crawford has been fine, but not spectacular.

All that said, if the Toews, Kane, Saad, Hossa, Sharp are playing like they can, all of those issues look a lot better.

But you don't get to feel this way when the Predators, Blues, Jets, and Stars are all interested in trying.

This is why I favor reducing the number of playoffs slots to four per conference. Then the regular season would matter. The Hawks have been able to turn it on in the past, so I am not worried. I am merely pointing out things I see like certain overpaid players in a cap constrained world.

The NHL will sooner close down than go to an eight-team playoff field. They even had 16 teams in the playoffs when there were just 21 teams in the league, meaning all you had to do was not finish last in your division (or fifth/sixth in the Patrick) not to get playoff revenue. If I'm not mistaken, the Hawks would have missed the playoffs in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2014 under such a setup.

Dumbass Carcillo aspended. Again.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo has been suspended six games by the NHL for a cross checking incident that took place in the second period of their loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night.

In the closing seconds of the second period, Carcillo delivered a cross check to the arm of Jets forward Mathieu Perreault that not only knocked him out of the game, but is also expected to keep him out of the lineup for several more. Just prior to the cross checking incident, Perreault had been called for knocking the stick out of the hands of Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith, drawing the ire of Carcillo who then drilled him in the arm after the whistle.

The play resulted in only a minor penalty during the game.

A repeat offender in the eyes of the league, Carcillo will lose $40,243.92 in salary as a result of the suspension. Carcillo has been suspended eight times and fined three others during his NHL career, including three incidents involving stick-related fouls.

He was offered an in-person hearing by the league, which gave the NHL the ability to suspended him for more than five games, but Carcillo declined that option. Carcillo has already served one game of the suspension, the Blackhawks' loss to Dallas on Sunday night, and will miss their next five games. He will be eligible to return to the lineup on Feb. 3 when the Blackhawks play the Minnesota Wild. He will miss upcoming games against Arizona, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Anaheim and San Jose.

Here is the NHL's full explanation for the suspension

Didn't see game. A legitimate hockey weird reason he did it? To me a bad crosscheck but not to head?

Weren't the oh so big Stanley Cup Champs LA Kings not interested for the majority of the season last year?

I'm numb to Carcillo....he's the least of the Hawks problems and his suspension doesn't impact the outcome of the next few games.

My guy Scorehead says they'll be really good next year. You are making a wise choice.

Minor league hockey has all the good things about minor league baseball except it is indoors and cold.

I have one more game to go to next weekend. The Wolves should be owned by the Boy/Girl Scouts of America based on how many groups go to their games.

The adults that attend Wolves games are a frighteningly ugly group

You should see the crowd at a Rockford IceHogs game. Better yet, don't.
