Tower of Power, gonna see them in St. Charles in a few weeks. Great funk/soul band out of Oakland.

So I guess it's a good thing I was in transit for the entirety of Hawks-Avs and missed them chanting "end the streak!" like the losers they are. Truly that's an organization where the brain is dead but the body lives on. The Oilers aren't in much better shape, back in their familiar position of 15th place in the West with a bunch of people injured. I don't know what it is about that team. Can't stay healthy.

Hawks have fallen to an unacceptable 21-1-3, adjusted record is 18-1-6. Oilers are 8-11-5, adjusted 6-14-4 god damn. Hawks are slumping in offense, down to 6th in the league at 3.080, Oilers are penultimate at 2.167. Six-goal game notwithstanding, the Hawks are still tied with the Sennies for fewest allowed at 1.960 per, the Oil is tied for 19th with 2.875 allowed.

Bulin, Fist Trick, Horcoff, Teemu "The Other Teemu" Hartikainen, Lander, and Sutton are all on IR for Edmonton. Ouch. At least they have all their star forwards, which we don't with the loss of Patrick Sharp for at least a month. Steve Montador still exists in theory but that's about it.

I gotta say, for everything Stan Bowman does well, he really trips over his dick when it comes to managing a 23-man roster and injured reserve. So he sends Bollig down, which is good, but then takes Montador off IR to be a scratch because why not I guess. Then Sharp gets hurt, which Stan can't really help, but then calls Bollig right back despite having demoted him for someone who still can't dress, rather than call one of a few Rockford guys who have performed well this year and cracked our roster in the past. He also fails to use LTIR. What a mess.

Hey, thanks for everyone who picked up the slack while I was busy!

Mr Hair, were you aware that Victor Conte of BALCO infamy, was once a member of Tower of Power? Of course they were just a wee hut of Power before his magic concoctions transformed them.

I was indeed! He had a brother in the band as well, who I think hung around a little longer than Victor did.

Emery in net tonight. I guess coach doesn't have much faith in craw after he pooped himself the other day.

Wow. That was a shitty goal. Way too many turnovers in the defensive zone. Get it out dammit.

Holy shit. Seabrook was clueless on that one.

Mike Brown, native of Northbrook. One of the few Jewish players in the NHL. He's no Jeff Halpern, though.

I hope the Blackhawks don't play 24 games without a point.

After tonight, the Hawks had three days off and then Columbus.
Looks like they need the time and the weak team.

Columbus isn't that weak. They're ahead of the Oilers in the standings for now, incidentally.

This is depressing. I wonder if Q's eyes are still twinkling.

Holy shit, this is as back and forth as a game can get right now. 6-4. Have to stay out the box from here on out.

Once you get four, who says you can't get seven?

Was Sharp part of the pk unit?

Yup. Losing Sharp is a big deal. Hawks fans were quick to point out he couldn't score this season but not only was he a huge part of the PK, but the puck always found him and the Sharp/Kane line has been the best line the majority of our games, in my opinion. A lot of that had to do with Sharp, just as much as it did Kane. They wore down teams.

I seem to remember Sharp scoring a lot of SHGs in 08-09 and the PK taking a hit when Steve Ott took him out for the rest of the regular season. So brace yourselves.

Holy fuck the refs had a good 10 seconds to see the Oiler holding the stick. Disgraceful.

KANER!

Sounds like Hawk is doing the game. Quit bitching, you give up 6 goals, you should lose.

Best I ever saw at not getting called for interference? Neely.

Hmmmm, no one ever said non-calls are why Hawks are losing. Just call obvious penalties...that's all. Any other useless comments you want to offer?

Just got home from being gone all day. Guess my bump of the previous Oil thread was a tree cut down in the forest, so here it was for posterity at 11:40 am:

Minooka Meatball wrote:

Hawks are reeling from their first regulation loss. :P I say Sharp's absence was the difference. :drunken:

Edmonton is playing thier 8th of a nine-game road trip that has been an unmitigated disaster - only one win, plus two back-to-back shutout losses to Detroit and Nashville. Edmonton is in horrendous shape, with no fewer than seven players including Khabibulin out. The Hawks are without Sharp and probably Montador. Meh.

It all points to the Blackhawks laying a whoopin' on the Oils - [crosscheck]which, of course, means that the Hawks will lose 5-3[/crosscheck].

And now he has waived Steve Montador, after taking him off the 7-day injured reserve in time for him to not play. Seriously, dude.

EDIT: from ProHockeyTalk,
Quote:
We’re still waiting for clarification as to why Chicago would place Montador on waivers rather than assign him directly to AHL Rockford for a conditioning stint.

I'm starting to fear that Bowman doesn't know you can make a 14-day conditioning assignment.

Did some research. Appearantly you need a players permission for the 14-day conditioning asssignment.

Rule 13.8 Unless a player consents, he shall not be sent to a minor league club for conditioning reasons. Nor shall such conditioning extend for more than 14 consecutive days w/o the players consent..The players receives same salary benefits etc if on assignment

Curious as to why a player would refuse unless they want to be exposed to the waiver wire. Wish we had any semblance of a hockey media.

If Montador turned down a temporary assignment to Rockford so he could bet on himself being taken on waivers, while risking a permanent assignment to Rockford, then shit, his concussion issues are worse than we thought.
