What's the condition on the pick? I hope it isn't "gets through season without being on IR for a month."

Rumor has it Carcillo will slot in for Kyle Clifford, who will be moved to Montreal. Hoo hoo, that sounds delightful!

The Carcillo news is the only real news the last few days. This time of year sucks.

How do you guys cope without hockey? Is heroin any good?

I go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Game 5 of the Kings series was on CSN tonight, which was nice, because I was flying during that game and had to rely on texts from, among others, my mom.

Farewell, Gorilla Salad. Your game winner against the 'Lanche/SI cover is about all I'll remember about the guy.

Hawks made some relatively minor moves today.......not that anyone seems to care :D

LeBlanc is back for 2 years.
Theo Peckhamn 1 yr
Michael Kostka 1 yr

Go see them in Rockford.

I thought Peckham was better than he is. Yeah, that's a Rockford guy. No idea who Kostka is.

LeBlanc could use a year in Rockford for some extra seasoning, but it's good to keep him in the system.

I believe Kostka actually played a decent clip with the leafs this season. 35 games

You have to feel a lot better about the team going into next year than the team after they won the Cup in 2010. Stan has done a masterful job of managing the cap and replenishing the minors through the draft. I believe the Hawks are about $2 million under the cap? Gives them some flexibility to make a deal at the deadline next year.

Yeah, Stan and the scouts are aces. I'm a little itchy about starting Morin, Pirri, and Smith up front right away, but I'm so glad we have such a solid base of well-aged prospects to cycle in. Let's just hope we can get one last year out of Handzus, or allocate the last of that cap space to a guy who's willing to take a cut to be part of this team. There are a lot of project players who are still out there: I see Wellwood, Mueller, and Ponikarovsky who could all step in and plug some holes in case those three aren't ready after stewing for three years. I mean, Ponikarovsky is basically a piece of shit, yeah, but there are always shittier shits, and if he can be a cheap third-line wing in case Handzus stops working, why not?

I'm not too worried about Smith or Morin. I think the fact that they've each had a taste of the NHL over the last couple years will help. I'm unsure about Pirri but the kid"s earned a shot and its time to see if he's a legit nhl player. Hope Q is patient with him.

I really like these two as depth/insurance guys for our defense. "Wreckem" Peckham weighs like 240 something? Kostka has put up decent numbers in the AHL and has decent size. Both bring toughness and size, could mean Brookbanks days are numbered?

One year at $110,000/$550,000 for Beach. That's nothing. Looks like a make-or-break year for him. I'll take break.

Hawks sign journeyman forward Brad Winchester, who was out of the league last year (signed with Milwaukee) but had been with the Blues in some forgettable capacity. Looks like Stan is committing to a veteran presence in Rockford with Peckham and now Winchester.

So they are having a bit of embellishment on the definition of "major" then eh?

Maybe the announcement is that they're shit-canning power play guru Jamie Kompon... A guy can hope

This plus the Q extension would satisfy me.

Capgeek says Ben Smith is on a one-way contract and has used up his waiver exemption (three years), so there's another make-or-break guy. I had hopes for him being an elite fourth-line guy the way Kruger and Frolik turned out to be, but I think at this point we kinda have to settle for him being a merely adequate fourth-liner.
