Stan must be VERY confident the cap is going and staying up at least 10-15mil very soon.

Agreed on cap because they paid a lot of money to Bickell, Crawford and now Hammer. Those are guys I thought you might have to sacrifice to keep Seabrook, Toews, Kane, and Leady. I don't know how they are going to fit all these guys under a mid-$60M cap.

On this hockey site I frequent everyone seems to be up to 80 million before our big guys are up.

4.1 cap hit. Great contract. Somewhat makes up for Crawford's overpayment.

Very nice tradeable deal.

Trade for what? $4.1MM is a damn steal for a top 4 S@H.

Not saying this year. But a lot can happen in five years like Leddy taking the next step, perhaps Johns signing and being good, the slim chance Olsen becoming useful, whatever. Hammer could be a great asset in replacing the Hawks' aging wingers.

I'll be damned. I didn't think they could do it. Good deal. I'm starting to worry about Sharp now.

As you should be. We can't have everyone, and thus my worry that the Bickell and Crawford deals will cause pain elsewhere.

From cap geek.

In 2015-2016, Toews and Kane are free agents. Money tied up as follows:

Hammer at $4.1M based on today's signing.
Keith- $5.5M
Seabrook- $5.8M
Hossa- $5.3M
Bickell- $4.0M
Crawford- $6.0M
Sharp- $5.9M

So they have $36.6M tied up in seven guys. If Toews and Kane each get $7M, then we're looking at nearly $51M for nine. You figure Hossa is not even around or very limited, so really eight guys. Now you need to figure out Leddy, Saad and all the other guys coming up. Something will have to give.

you think those 2 are going to sign for 7M? That'd be a huge hometown discount

Well, choose whatever math you want. If it's more than $7M, then it only makes the situation worse.

I thought Sharp was already locked up for 4 or 5 years. Unless you're thinking they'll trade him to accommodate these new contracts and the Kane and Toews deals that need to be done next year.

He's locked up, but the concern is you'd have to move him.

I don't think we're going to catch something the general manager didn't.

It's nice being able to have faith in the front office.

Being a fan of this team is so easy.

Prevents Doug Wilson from offering him a ridiculously large offer sheet .

I don't think Doug Wilson will be giving anyone any offer sheets by April.

Aren't they around 7 now? They are going to get raises, don't you think or no? I think them at 8 or 9 each is a good. Maybe the surrounding team and titles is more important? I don't know.

Who else would they look to unload? Hossa?

I'm telling you, Canadian TV money is going to blast the cap out of orbit. Stan knows what's coming. Don't worry.
