I really hope they make the round of 16. I grew up loving DePaul, but oddly I really liked Loyola almost as much. Especially with teams loaded with Chicago kids.

The Demons were all this city had for a while

Yep remember watching them on WGN on the weekends

Yep.

I will say I caught the end of the DePaul era because my starting point was when David Booth was there.

I was just a kid. And I mean little kid but I remember my folks watching it and then the last few years of Ray. It would of had a bigger impact on me if I had been 7-10 years older I think.

The DePaul Notre Dame rivalry was huge back then.

28-5 with a ten game win streak and 15 of the last 16.

Palm was talking about a 12 seed. Honestly, I'd be cool with that as they can beat a five seed and then would have a game against a four seed of similar strength to the 5.

i was kinda surprised how much he shit on Loyola in that interview. He also said their RPI was in the 30's which to me says they should have made it even with a loss yesterday.... I guess i was expecting them to be a 7 or 8 seed.

He's been a wet blanket on the Ramblers for weeks.

A few weeks ago I saw he had them as a 12. They keep winning games, close out their conference regular and postseason championships and start to get some momentum in polls but Palm still has them stuck at 12. Something seems wrong with him.

I am fine with 12 as I said for strategic purposes but objectively they are in the top 40 or so in the nation and should have a seed somewhere between 6-10.

Emmett McGovern. Greatest caucasian hoops player ever in Illinois.

And I forgot to type Ponsetto's name but I forgot Ramsey altogether.

Therein lies the rub. I'm glad to be wrong and have long admitted that I knew little about the team, but still hope they make it to at least the Elite 8

I've heard a lot about the '85 team in the past few days and Hughes; can you provide a link or you/somebody give me an idea why that team is regarded so well? Not being a smart-ass, just trying to learn about that team (I was only 6 that year).

College basketball was just coming off a boring period weighed down by dull four corners offense. Slow, deliberate and and stain on the game. See: Notre Dame vs. Kentucky 82, iirc the final score was like 35-32.

Then turn to 85 when many hated Georgetown and the kids from Loyola ran all day, and damn near beat them.

and that 85 Loyola team was no cinderella. They were a #4 seed and made it to the sweet 16 before going down with a valiant fight vs #1 Georgetown.

Didn't Hughes lead the NCAA in scoring that year? He was awesome.

What type of player was Hughes? Was he at the level of Hershey Hawkins and Kendall Gill?

Gill wasn't at the level of Hawkins. I'd say Hughes was a better college player than Gill but worse than Hawkins.

Loved Go, Go. He was my favorite player on the team as a grade school kid. It seemed like he never turned the ball over and always made the correct pass.

I think Loyola will start off next year as a top 25 team and have the benefit of the doubt they haven't received this year.

Phillips' very own iirc.

From a great time in CPS basketball. When it seemed as if there were big guys all over, yet 6'2" Joe Stiffend dominated the paint.

The Big East conf helped grow College Basketball too. It was helped tremendously by ESPN and the growth of cable television also. There used to be some absolute wars in that conf. Thompson with the whole persona surrounding Georgetown factored into it also. Throw in the Cuse Pitt and St.Johns and the landscape for college basketball would change forever.

I, however, would not. Alfredrick was a gunner with no conscience. Very one dimensional.

My guy on those old Georgetown teams was the bald headed, Damon from Cooley High looking Michael Graham.

He had federal penitentiary written all over his face

I liked when teams could pull the ball out. It was a great equalizer.

I remember calling Sportsphone and one of the guys- maybe Kap of Benkowski- giving the score of Duke 7- North Carolina 0 at the half. That was a basketball score! The final was Duke 47- NC 40. You could look it up.

They are a scary matchup for a 4 or 5 seed.
