There are four attempts to score by each team from the 10 yard line. Similar to the college football tiebreaker.

My only thought on this is that field goals should not be an option considering you're already starting at the 10 yard line.

A HS long snap, hold, and kick (won’t even go into blocking) is an adventure. Any team confident enough to kick it should get the chance.

These overtime rules are the equivalent of a hockey shootout.

May as well just make it a series of PAT conversions

People don't care so much in high school football, but if they did that for the Super Bowl overtime you'd know the NFL would change it immediately.

Not all states run the NFHS OT as mentioned above. Wisconsin does it like college, I'm just glad I haven't had OT in a ga mm r of mine in 12 years.

An extra point attempt in high school football is anything but a sure thing.

Anecdotal evidence from my 12 varsity contests this year is that you are correct. Most games for my crew were on turf this year, but the few on grass coincided with wet/sloppy conditions. It surprised me how many teams didn't opt to move the PAT spot to something better for their kicker.

People in general do not know how to coach or care a lot about kickers. I had a kicker (well a linebacker who kicked) a few years ago who hooked everything left. We just put every PAT attempt on the right hash. Problem solved :) . He even made two fgs over the course of the season.

I kicked in HS in the early 90’s and the coach was still all about straight on toe poking it
