Mt. Carmel going to get what's coming to them for a second year in a row by Wolfpack. I feel bad for them as its all they have. It's probably best for them to learn the hierarchy early in life.

Looks like Warren Township has a strong squad again. Happy to see it.
Edit — ouch! lost to Lake Zurich last night.

Fenwick-Loyola in Wilmette this afternoon.

I took a pass. Friars are going to get destroyed.

Notre Dame moved to 4-1 last night after trouncing the St. Viator Asshats 35-3.

A kid in the Midget extended family starts on the varsity squad.

we are an ND family as well. My son is a junior but stopped playing this year.

Is St. Viator really asshats? I don't have a lot of familiarity with their people. I like their insignia.

The games are fun to go to anyway and high school is shockingly quick when you compare them to college (especially ND) and pro games.

I have discovered a little trick with Ignatius. There is a bar named Little Joe's on Taylor. It has an outdoor patio. The only thing separating that outdoor patio and Ignatius field is the alley, so you can, essentially watch the games from the back patio or in alley while enjoying a drink. There are no stands on that side of the field.

That actually sounds a lot more fun than going to pro games.

On a different note, apparently George McCaskey is a fairly personable guy, hanging out a bit with the tailgaters yesterday.

Looks like conns, Terry's Peeps, and O'l Tommy are 2-0 against good dolphin. I'll buy ya two drinks, though, because I don't drink.

You can't see the game from Meier's on Lake Ave.

I've heard that going back a number of years ago about George. Probably explains why he's not very good at being Chairman Of the Board

Doesn't someone that posts here officiate some high school football games?

I have a question about something that happened in our high school game last night.

Harvard Dan just gave up officiating hoops last year, but I think he may still do football.

Done with football too. Coaching three middle school sports and playing in two full time bands while subbing in others here and there...who needs the aggravation?

Dan give the rules on this situation.

in our high school game on friday night. The opposing team has the ball on the 7 yd line with a 4th and 5. The QB scrambles and is tackled about the 5 yd line and he fumbles. The ball rolls forward and goes out of bounds at the 1 yd line. The officials mark the ball at the 1 yd line which gives the team a first and goal. They go on to score a go ahead TD.

Was this ruled properly? It seems crazy that you can get the extra yds for a ball that rolls forward with no one in control of it. If it has rolled into the end zone before rolling out it would have been a touchback, right?

NFHS rules seem to say spotting it where it went out is correct

Spotted where it becomes dead. Clock starts on snap.
No fourth down fumble rule.

I was at the Minooka/Plainfield North game on Friday. Minooka had a 14 point lead with about 6 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. What I witnessed next was quite possibly some of the dumbest coaching I have seen at any level. To start, yes they were running the ball, like they should, but they were leaving like 10-15 seconds left on the play clock with every snap, those seconds add up to minutes. Later Minooka was backed up to their 3 or 4 yard line and they opted to take a safety(on 4th down), again probably the right call to try and flip the field...but what became before that was just unfathomable, there was some confusion before the snap and with a clock running they(minooka) takes a timeout. If you are to take a safety anyways, just take the delay of game penalty! This preserved another 30-40 seconds for Plainfield. End of story, after a fumble Plainfield scores the go ahead touchdown (22-21) with less than a minute to play and eventually wins.

I get that the education field attracts some of the less intelligent people out there, but it's just amazing these men are allowed to coach young men with their stupidity. Mathematically, it was basically impossible to lose that game yet they found a way.

You watch coaches who make millions routinely fuck up time management at the end of a game every week Bob.

Thanks for the answer guys.

Just seems crazy that a team can gain yards when no one has possession of the ball.

But glad to know they got the ruling correct.
