Happy Birthday Marcus. You were such a good kid and enjoyed hanging with you all when you were young. Grew to be such a great man.

As a UIUC alum, I'm still mad at Lou Henson for playing him at center too much when he was going to be a 2 or a small 3 in the pros.

I had the pleasure of watching Liberty and his King teammates dismantle Stevenson at the Proviso West tournament in his junior year. 10am game the first morning, it was something like 91-29. He was just so much different than anybody else there all day.

Lou needed a center. Andy Kpedi and Ervin Small weren't cutting it.

what's he up to these days? I remember the hype for him out of HS. Did he ever make it to the pro's?

Yes he was drafted 2nd round by the Denver Nuggets and played about 3-4 years in the league. He is currently down in Florida running a prep school or a basketball training service.

I had the pleasure of playing with him as part of our weekly hoop set about 10-12 years ago before he moved down to Florida. His older brother Daryl "Stretch" Liberty was a regular at the set before he passed away about 7 years ago or so. It was run by one of Lib's old teammates at King.
